Default Value of Irish 02 RS with low mileage

Probably wrong forum to ask this in, but seeing as there are lots of Irish posters here :

I am hoping to get a new RS 2.0 petrol in January. So will be trading my 02 RS which is pretty much in perfect nick, full service history with dealer, and only 32k miles on the clock. I see on Autotrader.ie that a dealer in Wickclow is selling an 02 RS with 65k miles on the clock for 14995. My dealer is offering me only 9k !! What should I be looking for ?

thanks

Flanno,

I work with and know a lot of vw/audi/Skoda dealers in ROI and I can tell you the following.
All dealers have a glut of second hand stock that they have not being able to shift in the past 12 months and so are offering bottom prices for trade-ins. The 02 Vrs thats for sale on autotrader for 14K+ will not make that (private sale maybe 13500-> 13750) but if you offered the dealer 13000; he'd take it.

Given the demand for VRS's, I recommend selling your own privately. If you want to trade it in check the skoda dealers as far from Dublin as you can as they will give you a better price.

Thanks for the advice. I am also looking into a private sale. I suppose I could go back to the dealer and ask for 12k euro and see what he says. My local dealer is in Tipp.

Well Flanno....a blast from the past

I'm not sure what the going rate is now but 9k seems low. If you can shift your own private you should get 8-10% off for no trade in.

It might also be worthwhile giving Shaws in Longford a shout.

Re-TMC....cowboy !

Unhappy Re: Value of Irish 02 RS with low mileage

Cheers. Will check all of this out.

Went back to Newport motors and explained a garage in Wicklow on autotrader was looking for 13.9 for an 02 with 65k miles and they said they would reconsider. After eventually getting back onto them (sales man was busy and wouldn't take my call all afternoon and regularly hung up on his mobile), they said on consideration the best they could do was 8.5k euro as it was an 02 and they would be taking it off me in 07 which meant it was a 5 year old car. The bloody cheek!!! Only 32k miles on it too. After expressing my displeasure they brought it up to 9.5k but only if I order fairly sharpish and come in with a 500 quid deposit. Even sounded annoyed by the fact that I wouldn't take the 8.5k.

I don't think I could be arsed dealing with them. Had this experience before when I went about changing last year, and I always feel preassurised into making a decision and they always seem to give a crap price.

I wonder if I sell it privately will there be complications. There are still a couple of payments left as I financed the lot back in 02.

Anyway, am due a service soon and all I need by the looks of it is plugs, rear brake pads (should they last more then 33k ?), and maybe get the dealer to take a look at the MAF as the car feels like it's got kangaroo juice in it in the mornings
Still would love a new RS.
