| Re: Stream MP3 unit (June 2007) - headunit from Octavia II Hi there! Hope you're ok. Do you know whether it is a straight forward swap of an non MP3 Stream for the MP3 Stream? Also, would I need to take my car into a dealer to get the unit coded to my car?? I'm tempted as I'd like MP3 capability in my car but worried that it will be a hassle to do. Cheers. |

| Re: Stream MP3 unit (June 2007) - headunit from Octavia II It is definitely a "plug and play" swap. I have spoken to the service dept and they said most do not need a code, but if it has been unplugged for an extended time and the battery back-up fails it may need to be re-entered on power-up. They said they would look it up on the ELSA system. Apparently they enter the unit serial number and it tells them the code. This is a free service and I will get the code next time I see the dealer on Monday 16th June. Here are the physical install steps: Disconnect vehicle battery negative 1) prize off radio/air con trim (use credit card/fingers or similar to not mark trim) 2) remove screw covers on radio 3) T15 "star" screw driver to remove 4 screws holding in radio 4) pull out radio (taking care not to scratch air con buttons - put some tape over them temporarily just incase) and disconnect aerial and quadlock connector 5) lay in cable for AUX socket (to Jumbo Box, glove box etc) 6) connect new AUX socket cable (3 wires click into AUX inputs on carrier 1 - see end of page diagram at VRStu's Octavia-vRS link below). 7) connect aerial and quadlock to new unit 8) slot radio back in (may require a wiggle to get wires to sit properly behind) and screw in 9) clip trim back on Reconnect battery For picture instructions see here (for MFD2 install, but the same for radio removal): Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide For AUX cable instructions see here: Installing my MP3 Kit today. - BRISKODA - The Skoda Forum and Community The new Stream MP3 also has another benefit of better sound quality. The amplifier in the Stream MP3 is far better than that of the earlier Stream. If this sounds involved, I have mislead you - PM me with your phone number and I will call you back to discuss. You actually only remove one piece of trim and the radio itself!

| Re: Stream MP3 unit (June 2007) - headunit from Octavia II If you are based near to me I can fit the HU for you. Should only take 15 mins. If you get the AUX cable I can fit that aswell (earthed/screened Twin Phono to 3.5mm Stereo Jack Lead from Maplin etc and pre-terminalled wires 000979010x2 ) I will ask the dealer for the radio code on Monday June 16th. ![]() ![]() Chop the phone leads off, splice (solder and tape or heat shrink tube) RIGHT channel, LEFT channel to individual pre-terminaled wires (you only need the terminals, so just use the last couple of inches etc with the terminal on). Using Left EARTH and Right EARTH (ie the shielding from the phono cables) - twist and solder both EARTHs to third pre-terminaled wire.

| Re: Stream MP3 unit (June 2007) - headunit from Octavia II I think the code will need to be generated using the SKZ No. from the HU and the VIN of the receiving vehicle.

Thanks very much for your advice and info. I'm pretty at ease with the actual removal of the radio and re-fitting of a new one but it is the coding to the car in order to make it work that is a concern to me as I've heard that dealers might get a bit difficult giving codes out if the radio is from another car. Another question - is it true I have to switch a couple of wires on the connector block so that my existing CD changer will work properly? Thanks for the offer of fitting - unfortunately I live in Notts so would be a bit far. I'll need to discuss with SWMBO but as I've said before, I'm seriously tempted as I'd like MP3 playback and the ability to add an aux lead is nice as well. Hopefully can make you an offer soon. Thanks for your time and help though. | |

| Re: Stream MP3 unit (June 2007) - headunit from Octavia II Re: Code, I spoke to service dept over phone and they said they would look up radio code when I see them on Monday. On the MFD2 the code is definitely assigned to the HU only. I will check with them if that is the case for Stream aswell or whether they need the chassis number. If you have any probs later with your dealer, you can advise me chassis number and I will ask mine for you. But I can't see what the problem is - I can supply you with copies of V5, original invoice and a reciept stating you legally bought it off me (the original owner) and that my unit has been upgraded. Re: AUX/CDC wiring, ignore the original post above (edited now) The grounding issue is on the MFD2 itself. A Stream MP3 unit has upgraded earthing on Pins 2 and 3 so no need to swap (they are internally bridged within Stream MP3). Currently your system/quadlock will 3 have free spaces: OLD Stream NEW Stream MP3 You should be able simply click new leads into slots for Pin 1, 10, 12. For exact match with Pin outs on Stream MP3 MY2007 (and if you are worried earth is NOT identical), whilst clicking in new wires, simply unclip CDC earth from slot for Pin11 and swap to Pin 10. If you press small latch on wire terminal it is freed from carrier/housing (this is what I had to do with MFD2 as the second ground on that unit is in the Tele/Aux carrier2), then click into the other slot.

| Re: Stream MP3 unit (June 2007) - headunit from Octavia II slightly off topic, but does your road angel have laser? if so it be more advisable to have it in the middle at the lowest point. |

| Re: Stream MP3 unit (June 2007) - headunit from Octavia II "No laser on my wagon..." (don't want to be nicked in France!) Frankly, I would rather the unit didn't keep loosing its serial number every few times I update the database. Twice now it has gone back to RA to fix. Now they wont fix as warranty has ended (wanted £70 to fix). Refused to believe it was the same fault they fixed only a few months ago. So I told them to cancel my subs (their loss of £48 per year for no marginal costs). ![]()
