I'm going to Prague in a couple of weeks and would be interested in getting some of these.

Are they the sort of thing that you can just rock up to a dealers parts desk and buy?

To be honest mate at the price Petr can supply them its not worth the hassle of trying to buy them in Czech.

Belive me it's hard enough to get hold of things even when you speak Czech, you have little to no chance of getting what you want if you dont speak Czech.

You can try and buy them but I doubt the dealers will have the actual Skoda factory ones in stock, they will most likely be "Ceska Republika" surrounds. Good luck if you do contact a dealer. Post how you get on.

Re: Unused Czech Skoda numberplates surrounds

Hi Petr, just a quick question, how well would these fit at the front, I only ask because of the plastic surround on the front bumper is pretty much the same size as the number plate already. They are nice surrounds though, and I'd be very interested.
Thanks,
Sunny

The bit at the bottom bit is raised from the front by a few mm.

Re: Unused Czech Skoda numberplates surrounds

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Just gone to pop them on the mrs car and am unable to do so..... Looks like the original dealer decided in their wisdom to use the cheapest nastiest screws available and after just three years one on the back is rusted solid. (Although if using a socket set and screwdriver bit it might just might move). And on the front one of the three screws is so corroded that the screw head just disintegrated as i took the plastic cap off the top of it!!!!!

I would have thought it wasn't rocket science to use some good quality screws in a situation like this as they're not exactly protected from the elements!!!!!

Ok Rant over.

****EDIT****
I've managed to remove the front screw by removing the plastic cap which then gave more room to get hold of the screw with pliers and remove that way. So the front surround is now on.

The rear screw is stuck fast. It doesn't help that when they've fitted the plate they haven't bothered to use caps to cover the screws so i can't even do what i did on the front and remove the cap to get more leverage with pliers. I've even tried a socket set with screw driver bit and it moved very slightly but the screw head is too damaged and the screwdriver head just moves round the screw head.

Think the only way would be to drill it out. Not something i have any clue how to do so anybody in the Sheffield area want to volunteer or give advice???

Cheers

Dave.

Re: Unused Czech Skoda numberplates surrounds

Hi Dave,

I don't know how much of the screw head is left but I had a similar situation recently on my shower! The screw head was badly rusted up so that a screwdriver (crosshead) didn't work and it was in a location that didn't allow me to get a pair of pliers on it.
What I managed to do was to use a flat profile needle file and used the edge to file a slot into the screw head which then enabled me to use a slotted screwdriver. If you don't have a set of needle files, a junior hacksaw will probably do the same job - although a needle file can get in easier.

Hope this may prove useful.

Re: Unused Czech Skoda numberplates surrounds

Get a dremel with a cutting wheel and cut a new slot in.

Hello fella,

I had the same problem when fitting them to my Octi.

I used a Dremel to cut a new head into the screw but it was so bad that when I used the slightest amount of pressure it snapped off leaving half the screw behind.

The only thing you can do is drill it out. Its hard to do due to the location and trying not to damage the car. It just takes some time and a few cups of tea .

Happy to help if you get stuck. Just PM me when you have some time and we can arrange something. Pop down to my work where ive got all the tools we will need.

I feel for you mate, I know what a PITA it is.

Cheers
Mark

Re: Unused Czech Skoda numberplates surrounds

VICTORY!!!!!!!

Managed to crack it just now.

I dremmeled a slot across the top of the bolt so as to make it a bladed screwdriver bolt etc... as mentioned above. Then managed to get the bolt unscrewed using a socket and big bladed bit. Tried the bolt in the other thread and it went in fine so was obviously the thread inside the nut etc... that was knackered. Then as the bolt head was working fine as a bladed head decided to dremmel off 2 to 3 mm off the end of the bolt so that it screwed right in but didn't get to the knackered part of the thread and jobs a good 'un.

Gonna have to get a couple of new plates so as to get the smoooooth look especially as the rear plate is clipped in and just has two holes in it where the bolts used to go but that's something that can be done some time soon.

Thanks again for all the help..... Brisky members get the job done yet again.

Cheers

Dave.
