Default 6 speed conversion for 2002 octy vrs

does anyone know how hard a conversion it is to upgrade the octy to 6 speed? i know there are quite a few cars in the VAG group which run 6 gears but i am guessing that not all the gear boxes are identical.

is there a particular gear box which is either better than the rest or makes the conversion easier and if so please could you tell me what vehicle it is from.

many thanks

Lee

Dont bother IMO the 6th gear is the same as 5th in the Octy so no real point.

You would need box, starter and clutch off the top of my head and from something like an LCR

add to that selectors, clutch line and actuator thingy, flywheel, drive shafts and possibly a couple other things.

generally people haven't gone 6 speed because you gain a gear but because once running around 300bhp and over you destroy the 5 speed box and it gets tiresome replacing them

Very difficult and you wont gain too much from doing it tbh. one of the few reasons to do it really is for the LSD or to goto a diesel box which then needs a lot more power to work as the ratios are set for torquey low revving engine.

you'll need things like the drive shafts aswell iirc

Big, big job mate!

I went to the 02M 6 speed diesel box with a LSD/ATB.

If your car is standard-ish stick with the 5 speed and get a LSD/ATB fitted along with a tasty clutch and light weight flywheel.

Steve
