ABS Problem?

Hi folks,

Wondered what you lot would make of this...

The dashboard on our Fabia lit up like a christmas tree on Monday on the normal commute to Macclesfield. ABS light, Traction Control Light and Brake Warning Light all on at once. Stopped, pulled over and eventually turned off. Turned back on and all seemed OK with no lights on so completed the journey carefully. The manual is suggesting a brake problem and the dealer reckons it may be ABS sensor related which may makes sense given the lights.

Has anybody else had this and is it likely to be a sensor. Also, given that the dealer replaced the driveshaft nuts on the front end just a week or so ago to cure a long term knocking noise could it be related? ie could they have disturbed/damaged something?

It's still under warranty so, provided it all gets sorted I'm not too concerned but given that it took ages to get the driveshaft problem sorted out I'd be interested in your feedback!

Cheers

Sounds very much like ABS speed sensor fault - you say they did some work around the driveshaft ? - if so it would be quite easy to damage the sensor,or possibly the ring that sits behind the shaft that the sensor picks up on.

Other possible causes could be a faulty brake pedal switch - but that would bring on the engine management light as well,.

Either way your dealer should be able to sort it -- there should be a fault code listed in memory.

Cheers Skodaw... Doesn't sound too serious!

Did you ever find out what caused the problem?

My Fabia did something similar today (TC light & ABS warning lights on, red brake warning light flashing, beeps from the dashboard). Was crawling in traffic jam at the time, drove cautiously home, and when I switched off engine and restarted it seemed to disappear.

I'm not sure whether or not to take it to garage yet as my car always behaves itself perfectly when in the garage and never seems to admit to misbehaving when the diagnostic machines ask my car what it's been up to.

Any advice from all those experts out there?

Thanks,
David

My Octy also have this ABS lights up once a while, during normal driving. The light goes off after restart engine. The workshop said it is OK as long as it goes off.

Had this glitch after reversing on wet grass/mud . It lit up immediately but has never returned since. Obviously the sensors can pick up dirt and send false failure signals. But as you can never be certain!
