| As my thread seems to have dissapeared - something to do with the move perhaps - here goes again.... Just ordered a 1.8T octavia with auto box. Am seriously considering one of these APR chip things, supposedly gives me 207bhp. But, am concerned over the long-term reliability of the gearbox, as such as large increase in torque I should think will not please it! Any thoughts, ideas, experiences etc greatly appreciated. Also I have read the engines thing, but still am unclear as to what the real difference is between the 150/165bhp and 180/195bhp units really is, it seems perhaps just the computer? Finally what is the best way to approach ones insurance company about the superchip things. Currently I'm with Direct Line. Cheers Jim. |

| I'm sure I read your post last night but you're right, it's gone! Do you mean Superchips or APR or 'another'? Either way go to the member list and look up 'KLB', he's got an auto with a Jabba re-map. He's the man to talk to. With regards to insurance, DL aren't that mod friendly but will still insure you. They charged me an extra £70 or so (I think) for the remaining 4 months of my policy with a Superchip chip fitted. When you're up for renewal try Liverpool Victoria (posts about them can be found on here somewhere) but remember to phone them, don't use the online quotes. (And that's good advice for anyone who is shopping around.)

| I'm insured with DL....pay an extra £100 a year for all my mods (Jabba remap, full exhaust, CAI)......excess has gone upto to £450 though. DL cheapest I found for me. I tried LV but there were over a £100 more expensive although they won't increase premium if you do mods. I guess though as you have a 1.8T Elegance you'll get a good deal. The 150bhp 1.8T is basically a detuned version of the 180bhp 1.8T. Cheers. Adrian.
