Clutch issue!

I pulled out quickly from a junction on to a roundabout earlier and the clutch pedal seemed to stick half way up! The result was much revving and a lot of smelly burning clutch!!! Is my clutch on the way out, or was I jsut giving it too much right foot?? The clutch is not slipping and the problem seems to have gone now, except the burning smell!!!

Any thoughts??

maybe the slave cylinder is leaking a little!

check the brake/clutch fluid level

BLIMEY!!! Never even thought about that sort of thing! Is this a major issue?? Where can I check the levels?? Thanks for your help by the way. SC

Have you any carpet/mats in the foot well that may have ridden up under the clutch pedal? I once sat at lights lifted clutch foot up andstarted to rev but clutch pedal stayed where it was, turned out mat was jamming pedal shaft into recess.

carpets and mats interfering with pedal travel happens more than people may think! I had an old lancia thema turbo, and lost the overboost for while, (overboost happens for short periods on full throttle) , took my car in, and it turns out the carpet had slipped under the accelerator, preventing the pedal travel from getting far enough to operate the switch! lol... pull the carpet back, and overboost returns !

Definately not the carpets!

I can still smell a little bit of the burning smell in the car! Seems to be there all the time! Any other suggestions? how much would a new clutch be on a vrs? I have a little oil around the oil filler cap on the engine, could it be that which smells? I'm cleaning it off tomorrow, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

The smell from a burning clutch hangs around for days as we found out

The slave cylinder failed and was replaced by a newer part on my octy under warrenty.

Get it sorted asap or you'll end up with a new clutch + labour associated, which won't be that cheap I'd imagine

Clutch for Furby vrs is aroung £600 incl VAT & Labour, That is waht I was quoted, fortunately mine was a warranty job PHEW !

I had that EXACT same issue.

It needed a new clutch slave cylinder. All done for £100.

I have an issue with the clutch which is intermittent, but rather than slipping it won't disengage properly?

Most of my miles are on the motorway, but quite often once I've driven the 5 miles / 10 minutes through town from the motorway to my house (approx 55 miles motorway first), I start getting gear engagement problems. Sometimes it is almost impossible to engage first or reverse to park, sometimes the car seems to jump a little if I sit with the clutch depressed waiting to pull away.

Does anybody have any suggestions please? I noted it 15,000miles ago, but the dealer couldn't find anything wrong?

Should have noted that its a 55 plate Furby vRS!

Unfortunately my car did exactly the same last night (Clutch pedal stopped about quarter of the way up)....

My car absolutly stunk for a while but all gone now.

Where is the slave cylinder so I (like SCVRS) can check that all is ok.

the slave is on the top of the gearbox on the right as you face the car, iirc to get to it you have to take the battery out
