Getting my new CAI next week!

As the topic says I am installing a CAI(Cold Air Intake) called the CDA-box and is manufactured by BMC. Here is some pics from another RS with the CDA installed: [img:d695981890]http://213.113.222.155/Pictures/ny-rs-ace5.jpg[/img:d695981890] [img:d695981890]http://213.113.222.155/Pictures/ny-rs-ace4.jpg[/img:d695981890] [img:d695981890]http://213.113.222.155/Pictures/ny-rs-ace3.jpg[/img:d695981890]

Oh, and that is real carbon fibre 8) This is suposedly one of the best CAI's out there.

What performance gains do you expect from the CAI? And what do the manufacturer's claim for it? Is this where you found it and which one is it?

For UK members, Advance Evolution (now in our web links) sells BMC CDAs but they do not come cheap.

I only expect minimal hp/torque gains but they claim a gain of 4-8hp depending on engine type. I am just after the louder DV-sound and the intake sound. Any hp-gains are just a bonus The "venturi-principle" the CDA uses should have some positive effects on a turbo engine. I have talked to some peaple with this installaed on various VAG-1.8t-engines and they say the turbo spools up quicker, it sounds great and they believe they did gain some power. When I install it on thursday or friday I will see for my self. I got a great price on my CDA(used) that's why I bougth it. Would never buy it for full price(E350). I found out about the CDA last summer when a friend of mine bougth on for his car.

I don't know if this is true or not but i have heard that the O.E. paper filter, filters out all but the tiniest of particles hence the restriction in air flow, where as the so called free flow systems do not and small parts pass through. These particles then proceed to the turbo and attach themselves to the bearings and acting almost like a grinding paste, you can guess the rest. Noises apart, a duff turbo is not a noise i want to hear.

Do you have to remove the plastic engine cover to fit this or has that been removed from the car in the pics for other reasons?

No, you don't. It's just a different type of arbox and filter. This particular engine has larger injectors, intercooler, kkk16, custommade exhaust etc. Dont know if thats why it doesnt have the plastic cover on.

Report back on Briskoda when youve had the airbox fitted with your thoughts on it , it looks very nice and i do love a bit of induction noise!! 175 pounds plus tax is a lot to pay tho (plus am a little worried about its effeciveness and if it sets off the CEL!) so let me know if its good or bad!

Cheers

Here in Sweden one of(if not the) most respected v.a.g-tuners, ACE-competition fit the CDA to the cars they tune and that says alot. Even though, Ace-competition agrees in that the CDA isn't at all necessary, if you don't tune the 1.8t extensively, since the stock airbox is actually very good designed. www.acecompetition.com But since I got a great price on the CDA(used on season) I thougth it would be nice to try it out. Oh, and the CDA does not cause any MAF-failiure like ordinary "open" filters. I know a couple of people who had their CDA installed for over 2yrs without any trouble. Maybe the high price actually means high quality in this case?
I will post when it is bought and installed.

Cheers!
