| Going Away For Three Months Poss. Longer I am going away for three months and was wondering what to do with my Fabia vRS I will be disconnecting the battery and removing it. This is to stop someone from nicking my Fabia. Also I do not know what to do with the diesel in the tank? Do I run it till there is barely any in the tank? Or do I fill it? Also if I am away for longer than the above (Going to New Zealand) Does Diesel go off or have a ‘shelf life’ whilst in my tank-if so will it harm my Fabia? Thanks for all advice |

Ill look after it while your away mate. Ive got a nice central heated, tiled floor garage to store it in ![]() I could do with another Vrs to run while mines in pieces ![]() seriously, I would just park up, switch off and then remove the battery (remembering that you cant get into the boot with it disconnected We have an old landy which was left standing outside for 6 years. All it took to get it running was some fresh petrol and a new battery. Dont worry about it ____ john

| Re: Going Away For Three Months Poss. Longer Brimming the tank is worth doing , and if you can get someone to move it every few weeks just so the tyres aren't stuck in the same place it's worth doing. That will also help prevent the brakes siezing

| Re: Going Away For Three Months Poss. Longer Declare it SORN and claim your TAX back. Virtually empty the fuel tank - Hmm actually keeping it full and empty both have disadvantages so this is a tough one. In fact if I am honest once you have added the cost of keeping the thing insured, depreciation and possible parts you might as well sell it and get a new one on your return if you might be away for more than 3 months. On stored cars that have not been moved at all I have seen the need for a new battery, tyres/wheel bearings and the fuel + air filters. Spiders seem to love air filters for some reason :S

| Re: Going Away For Three Months Poss. Longer dont leave the handbrake on and leave it in gear instead. leave some sort of bracing against the wheels if your worried. i find that even leaving a car standing for a few weeks with the handbrake on can cause it to stick. for security you could also buy one of those wheel clamps that go round one of your wheels? not sure about the fuel side. i would leave it low, and then get some fresh when you come back and drop it in before restarting.

| Re: Going Away For Three Months Poss. Longer mate i left the country for a few months last year. disconnected the battery and covered her up. was little fuel in her but enough to get me to a petrol station upon return. not much will evap out of the tank. mine started first time. i just had to take it easy rtil the brakes bedded back. id leave it in gear as well rather than applying the handbrake just in case it seizes up

| Re: Going Away For Three Months Poss. Longer When boat owners winterize thier boats they are always recommended to fill the diesel tanks to the brim to prevent condensation - giving water in the fuel next season. As boats can be left like this for 6 or months you should not have to worry about diesel going off. Might be worth doing an oil change if not done recently to eliminate any nasty acids in the sump and oilways and make sure your antifreeze is the correct strength
