maybe the thread title was badly worded as it's the engine rather than the car you're on about

![]() and did i say i was talking about your car? yes i have a preference for petrol cars when we are talking performance as IMO its the only choice for a true sporty car but i love diesels for town driving especially with a decent autobox as its so much more relaxing and easy.

| Re: has the fabia hit its ceiling? Yeah, I used to have a PD130 golf with a hybrid turbo which was great fun, very rapid. It used to raise eyebrows and drop jaws and not to mention it was quicker than my mates remapped 1.8T, it used to pee all over it ![]() . Then there was the guy in the skyline that you should have seen his face when he saw the TDI badge. So in my opinion it was well worth spending the money on a FMIC and hybrid turbo in the 5 years of ownership i have had it.For the record this isn't a biased post because i don't own a derv anymore. I now have a petrol turbo and it doesn't mean i think it's any better than my derv was ![]()

| Re: has the fabia hit its ceiling? I usually get 330-340 bhp from a 2.0 PD so thats more then 150 bhp per litre which was achived about two years ago now. |

![]() your compairing different levels of tune though, how do you think yours would have faired against a 1.8T running a simple gt28 setup(so about the same sort of mods)?

| Re: has the fabia hit its ceiling? I am only speaking for myself here but i used to tune petrol cars for years but i got bored as there is no real challenge in it. Anyone who has the money can go out any buy a 1.8t 20v car and take it to plenty or engine tuners that could if you give them the money strip the engine and give it back to you a few days later running 500 bhp+ if you wanted as it`s all been done before many times by other companies with basically off the shelf tuning parts. I have spent a lot of money but i have also learned a lot while doing so plus i have a one of the kind car in the world which i can thrash around the place without it costing me a fortune in petrol. I have a friend with an Evo 8 thats spent more money then me and it`s now running about 550bhp and 550lb torque, yes it`s quicker then mine on a track but when we go for a drive on the road even he admits there is nothing between our cars apart from his probably in single digit figures mpg while i am still getting 30mpg+. Diesel tuning costs a lot more as most of the parts are special or low volume built and very few companies are willing to put the time and effort into really pushing a diesel engine as the publisity and protensional profit from doing so still isn`t there since probably 95%+ of people who tune their cars tune petrol cars and think diesel tuning is a waste of time. Each to there own i say. |

| Re: has the fabia hit its ceiling? if your saying that diesel is the choice for future performance cars as proved by LeMan then why are cars such as the veyron which is a super special very short run car petrol?

| Re: has the fabia hit its ceiling? so your trying to say a 330bhp/440lbft A3 quattro is just as quick as a 550bhp/550lbft evo when both are going for it?

| Re: has the fabia hit its ceiling? i think basically wether it's petrol or diesel, it boils down to what you are satisfied with and how empty your wallet is, at the end of the day it's all just numbers, and no matter what you do there will ALWAYS be somebody who's faster |

.My PD 130 was doing 1000 miles a week so it made sense to me to mod it to 220bhp+, it would have cost me a fortune in a 1.8T remapped.

Thats it, at a recent rolling road day there were evo's and an astra gsi pulling well into 250bhp+ and noone batted an eyelid when a chap pulled up in his, smartly styled, but understated tuned fabia vrs and it pulled 235bhp cue the "is that a derv?" "**** me thats an oil burner"

I still reckon you worded the initial question badly - it should be something more like are we beginning to see the limits of PD130 tuning, which apart from the odd freakishly powerfull build here and there seems to be a fair assumption to make right now given the relatively small gains people seem to be seeing once they go past the more usual stg2 turbo+fmic+exhaust+map route

| Re: has the fabia hit its ceiling? I think i'm with you on this. Even though i now own a petrol turbo i would be less likely to put a bigger turbo on it like i did my derv. Obviously bang for buck the petrol has the advantage when it comes to mods but if you spend as much on a 1.8T as i did my old derv i don't think the 1.8T would be as near as reliable. I hear of lots of problems when you put a big turbo on a 1.8T.
