Has my Fabia Vrs Run In?

I have just done 6100 miles on journeys of varying length including to and from work.

I have had the car from new and heeded the advice in the manual bout the first 1500 miles.

Car does feel a lot more free reving but when does it actually run in?

Even the most long-winded running-in method means you can do what you like after 4k mile, IIRC. I found the change was very noticeable after the first oil change at 10k, however. The 1.9 PD engine has a reputation for getting better and better as you clock up the miles. I'm on 42k now, and more than happy with the performance!

I'm on 47K miles. Get about 8mpg more now than what I use to get on low milage.

Re: Has my Fabia Vrs Run In?

I've just got my second Tdi Superb. The first one was a 130bhp 1.9PDi and I ran this in over the first 4,000 miles, gradually increasing the revs as the mileage increased. I found that the performance improved at about 20,000 miles and the engine generally felt smoother, more economical an more torquey. The first service was at 22,000 miles!
I kept it for 3 years and clocked up 118,000 miles in this time. The performance didn't drop off at all. In fact it improved quite a bit as the mileage rose.
The new car is a 2.0 Tdi and has covered 7,000 miles. I once again ran it in for 4,000 miles (ie keep it between 2 and 3,000 RPM). Even with 7,000 miles on the clock it is still as tight as hell. Once again, I am expecting it to free up at about the 20,000 mile mark.
Running in is important as it's not just the engine that needs to bed in. Think of the gearbox, wheel bearings, clutch etc. Once that's done though, feel free to thrash the **** off it!!! These engines are bomb proof and absolutely fly. With careful running in, you get minimal oil use and non of the usual black smoke associated with diesels. It'll also last a lifetime. My colleague is running a 1.9 Tdi PDi Superb and he has just clocked up 133,000 miles in 3 years. That was also run in carefully.
Hope this helps.

Are you a taxi driver by any chance?! lol.. anyway, welcome to briskoda....

I'm up to 60k now, and it feels the best it ever has done, so I'd agree, better as the miles go on, and as others say, seems to feel properly run in at about 10 k

Re: Has my Fabia Vrs Run In?

No. I'm probably one of the few Superb drivers in the world that isn't a mini cab driver (I'm in the Telecoms game). These cars really are "superb" though. Massive inside and better built that a Passat. I don't know whether it's where I am careful when running in, but the performance of the 1.9 130BHP was brilliant. The 70-90mph time in fifth was about the same as it was in fourth. I wonder whether the engine is mapped to give more torque to compensate for the extra weight

Re: Has my Fabia Vrs Run In?

My experience with my Fabia vRS is very similar to Karlos and his Superb. I noticed a definite improvement after the 1st service at 10,000 but as the car approached 20,000 it really loosened up markedly and the performance improved again. I've now done 25,000 (in just over a year) and it's running better than ever. I had a Passat with an early PD engine (115bhp) and that was better after 80,000 than it was at 20,000.
