Help! Wipers going on own when engine started!

God knows why its doing this... BUT, when the octavia is now kicked into life the wipers suddenly start going, even with the stalk in the off position - It gives 6 to 8 wipes, then stops in a random position. Anyone know what this could be? If its purely electronic then is it worth me removing the battery connector temporarily to deaden the car and hopefully reset it? The wipers work fine, they just come on when the ignition starts and stop in random places...

Anyone got any thoughts cuz I can't sell the thing like this. Right, I'm off to pack my suitcase for the flight tomorrow!

43 viewers and no ideas? I guess this is a new one eh? No thoughts from our resident mechanics? Sod it, tomorrow night, I'm just gonna pull off the positive connector on the battery and hope that does it.

Reseting the ECU might help, you never know. A reboot seems to fix most things IT Related.

Isnt a wiper fault similar to this a known Octy thing? I seem to remember mine refusing to park when turned off, and I,m sure I have read similar threads/questions on here about it.

I'd put my money on a wiper motor.

Have a look at the connections on it to check for water ingress.

Will check the connectors, thanks.

Weird thing though how both do exactly the same thing, wipe wipe wipe, stop at the same time in odd place.

Its the motor that controls where the blades park, thats why i think its that.

Ive got an old octy 1998 and it too has peculiar wiper behaviour.

I doesn't start on engine start but when you push the arm down for a single wipe to clear the screen it just carries on, sometime twice sometimes three sometime longer. It seems to revert to normal behaviour when the car has warmed up.

It also just carried on going today when i activated the screen wash the wipes just didn't bother stopping. Under all circumstances it behaves normally when you tell it to do something else i.e. turn on intermitent.

If you read this devonutopia did you get to the source of your problem ???

Sounds electrical to me but thats just a wild guess. Does anyone have any suggestions, where is the wiper motor located ???

Well, we changed the wiper motor relay, and it stopped it... Assuming that was the problem!
