Unhappy Hesitancy under acceleration...

SWMBO has an A3 1.8T which uses the 150 bhp AGU motor. Now for the last couple of months I've noticed a slight hesitancy under load. It's quite intermittent and occurs at any engine speed / temp etc and usually lasts a second or so.

The plugs were changed about 6k miles ago, I've just cleaned the MAF and replaced the DV for good measure. VAG-COM hasn't flagged up any error codes. Anyone any ideas?

I would say my Octavia suffers from that all the time. Floor-it, seems to start accelerating, but doesn't, waits, then the revs start to rise. It is very noticeable in 2nd, say when waiting for an overtaking opportunity and hanging in 2nd gear at 30mph, quickly flooring it then will result it a definate pause immediately after the first "lets-Go" response.

You could try resetting the throttle body, mine was a bit poorley even after a service. A quick throttle body alignment and she's going great now.

Can be done via vagcom or the boot open pat your tummy method.

Hi Jimmy, any update on this issue?

My RS has just started with this problem. I took it to the dealer this morning so they could plug in their diagnostics tool and they said it had an error code which they will investigate. I don’t think it is an obvious problem as they had some idea of what to check for but said I would need to book the car in for some investigation work.

I will post back with my findings, probably in the next couple of weeks as I will need a curtsey car and that delays things a bit. The dealer said I would be ok to drive as normal but may experience some intermittent hesitation. Sounds like the same issue as your Audi.

Nah, still no joy. I've re-set the throttle body now but the problem still occurs. What is curious though is I ran a VAG-COM check when the problem first occurred and got an 'intermittent engine speed sensor' fault code. I'll need to dig out the ref number. Anyway, I cleared all codes but the problem has happened numerous times since but no more fault codes have been generated

If you get any joy please post it up and I'll do the same if I get to the bottom of it in the meantime...

Hi mate, will keep you posted. The dealer took a printout of the error code so at least they have a record of it when my car gets booked in.

Thumbs up Fault fixed

Update: Fuel Regulator valve replaced.

I can't remember what the original error code was, but apparently the fuel regulator valve is suspect if your car has these symptoms and all hoses and conections are ok.

Now getting worse. Still no fault codes showing up on VAG-COM and still very intermittent. Might be worth changing the Fuel Reg Valve. Anyone with ETKA have a part # and price if possible?

Bloody Audis......

Just to add when I originally ran VAG-COM after the problem occurred I got the following fault code:

Chassis Type: 8L - Audi A3/S3
Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,17,22,35,37,45,54,55,56

Address 01 -------------------------------------------------------
Controller: 06A 906 018 AQ
Component: 1.8L R4/5VT MOTR HS D03
Coding: 04000
Shop #: WSC 06313
1 Fault Found:
16885 - Vehicle Speed Sensor: Implausible Signal
P0501 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
Readiness: N/A

As mentioned previously I cleared this code at the time and it hasn't re-occurred even though the symptoms are getting worse.
