Don't use Vanish or 1001 unless it's a tiny mark. They are mainly made up of bleaching agents.

Find a tanin remover, Stain Devil is good (if you can still get it). Or phone a good, reputable household carpet cleaning company for advice. Cleaning carpets is cleaning carpets and they'll come up against coffee stains all the time.

baby wipes are good at cleaning chrome and vomit from my car seats never know it might work on coffee?

I found Halfords general stain remover (bit like a roll-on deodorant) very good for removing chocolate stains - might do the trick for coffee...

day tripper, you could try the tips here or here. If you don't fancy those, try a Google search for coffee stains carpets and take your pick.
