| Don't use Vanish or 1001 unless it's a tiny mark. They are mainly made up of bleaching agents. Find a tanin remover, Stain Devil is good (if you can still get it). Or phone a good, reputable household carpet cleaning company for advice. Cleaning carpets is cleaning carpets and they'll come up against coffee stains all the time.

| I found Halfords general stain remover (bit like a roll-on deodorant) very good for removing chocolate stains - might do the trick for coffee...

| day tripper, you could try the tips here or here. If you don't fancy those, try a Google search for coffee stains carpets and take your pick.
