How Do You Change The Turbo Inlet Pipe

Right now I have ordered the ABD Turbo inlet pipe, can some nice soul who has done this already post a Step-by-Step howto on installing the beastie. I could proberbly work it out but it could also help the others in the group buy.

Spanner rating 1 -2 in my book, it's more of a fiddle than anything else.

Did mine last Saturday (car still worked come Sunday for the Midlands Mega Meet!), not difficult, so long as you can get the front of the car safely supported off the ground by a good six inches to allow you to get up and under. Have you got the ABD racing inlet pipe? If so follow instruction to the letter and pretty simple. You'll find it easier if you do it while the engine is still warm - numerous rubber pipes about the place will be more supple to push this way and that, also removing the rubber inlet tube at the MAS housing end allows for greater flexibility. Should take less than a hour (including jacking the car up and down).

Me again, meant also to say if you have difficulties separating the rubber hose from the top of the existing intake pipe, or removing the intake pipe from the tubo housing, its most likely not because they are stuck, but your pulling force is not 90° exactly from the face, i.e. cos both ends of the intake pipe have rubber o-ring seals, if your pulling in less than straight direction, the o-rings bind and won't move easily. OK?

Hopefully should get this in a few days, and weather permitting will fit next weekend. Will keep you posted.

These things always look different in the pics, the difficult bit for me is going to be finding something to support the car whilst I am underneath. I have a couple of trolley jacks but I have a feeling thats not enough.

Ramps are even easier - no faffing about with the jack - just drive up and remember the handbrake

I could never get my Cavalier GSi on my ramps for this very reason

Nor me my Senator plus assorted other cars. I think that the height of the side 'lips' and the ramp gradient need careful thought when buying ramps.

Denis, your right about checking the gradient before purchasing. Alternatively, make the gradient shallower with some strategically placed pieces of wood.

Here is a quick Question. With the ABD kit you get some instructions that make it sound much easier to fit than the link above would suggest for several reasons.

No mention of airbox removal

No mention of need to remove the rubber hose that connects to the main input from the car. They say that the inlet pipe and main rubber pipe can be separated in situ.

Wonder if that really is the case.

When you say rubber hose I assume you mean the one that's connected to the TIP and have N75, DV hanging off it?

I guess it may be easier to remove the rubber hose/pipe whilst the TIP is in situ......you've got someting to pull against.

Anyone fitted theirs yet?

2. Open hood and remove engine cover

2. Locate and remove retaining clip that secures the rubber intake tube to the metal turbo inliet pipe.

3. Pull up and out on the rubber intake tube to separate from metal turbo inlet pipe.

4. From under car, locate and pull off the small rubber hose (approx 1/4" dia.) that is connected to the metal turbo inlet pipe.

Just as well I found some installation info then.

Does give some info but misses out some important stuff like...remove airbox to give access and see TIP.

Looks like I'm going to have to remove my Dynatwist....those with the ABD LAN/Carbonio should get away with it.

Also probably easier to get to the allen bolt from underneath.

I've just fitted a neuspeed TIP, you cant see the allen bolt from above the engine, but i felt around and managed to undo it without seeing it.

The OE TIP came off easily with the rubber hose still connected (was fiiting CAI + DV at the same time) and split easily on the workbench.

I found out why the coolant pipe bracket has to released, the neuspeed TIP is bigger than OE and needs the extra room to be re-fitted, once the TIP is in place the bracket is fixed back in place ok.
