Exclamation Ignition Coil's --heads Up!

Probably not the right place for this - but this is a head's up for all 1.8T owners -- it would appear we are heading for a new ignition coil problem -- we have been advised that we need to build our stock's of ignition coils significantly -- i.e over 100 types of each to be held in stock at any time.........

When you consider that our normal stock level is between 6 & 8 of each type --- Oh Dear, Here we go again...

We don't think this is part of a recall,as recall parts are usually automatically issued - so as not to mess with our auto stock levels software.

Just thought it might be worth mentioning - those that don't have spare coils - it might be a good time to find one or two !

To be fair, my dealer in Cardiff, White Dove called me in and changed all mine to type J coils. Still carrying two new J's in the boot though - with some extra clutch parts for Jon, just in case.......................

So which type of coilpacks are you stocking up then, Dave?

Does this mean that the "reliable" replacement packs have seen their first failures?

I have spoken to someone here and he reckons it's a contingency plan to prevent what happened earlier this year (when it was cold) happening again (now it's getting cold)

so maybe no need to panic just yet

Thanks, Niki, that's a relief.

I was lucky to start off with those in the first place, of course. (Phew!)

* Wonders if Denis realises that "Js" are also slang for something entirely different... *

I'd say so mate, but get it checked, and as I have said- if one coil goes they'll replace it- if 2 go, they'll do the lot for you, no arguments.

If they do get funny, ring me or any of my lovely coven here.

If you do a search you will find that the 06B 905 115J has been superceded by the L in later cars, and that the latest cars are fitted with yet another coil - the 06A 905 115A - whch is not a replacement for the problematic coils. Chassis numbers for the latest coil are from:

1U-3-810 087>>
1U-3A020 277>>
1U-38712 054>>

(The engines in question are the AUM, ARX and AUQ)

I can confirm what LadyLoki said - we have had NO failures of new type coils (J or later) however,we are starting to see an increase (again) of the earlier type failures -- some cars had these fitted when the originals failed -- we have had 3 in today -- I have 2 that I know of so far for tomorrow -- the only strange thing is -- it's not cold yet !

I think there may be a knee jerk reaction by other dealers not in the know -- if they suddenly see the ABDG dealers ordering 200+ coil's -- they might just panic a little

oh sorry -- forgot - ABDG - Audi Business Development Group -- is made up of Audi boss's and dealer principals from the top 25% of Audi UK dealers -- they are the people responsible for such things as what colour toilet paper we have -- I kid u not !!

Audi specify white or pink toilet paper -- not that anyone takes any notice !!

When we moved into the new dealership 4 years ago -- we had light grey fire doors -- a WEEK after we moved in - they changed spec to the light wood(beech?) -- we had to change around 15 fire doors -- which were then thrown in a skip !!

The other crazy thing....when we moved in Audi had no guidelines for site signs i.e parking / speed etc -- so everyone went it alone - we had some made by a local company - an Audi rep saw them - loved them - they became the standard -- next visit we had -- you must change the signs - they not corperate -- YES they are says us -- NO there not -- you didnt get them from us -- but whats the difference, same design, same company ? -- you didnt get them from Audi - CHANGE THEM NOW! -- sometimes they can be total tommy tankers
