| I was moaning generally about the greasy state of the inside of pretty much all the glass in my car. All the cloths in the car seemed to just move it around, and I was starting to get pretty annoyed. Suddenly, Mum pipes up her Dad used to clean the windows of their house using "vinegar-water" - and it used to get a real nice shine on them too. Fair enough, methinks, so I popped by her place after work and had a shot. Nothing more than a small bowl of water, and a good glug of vinegar. One cloth to apply (soaked with it) and a dry cloth to wipe off excess, and polish to some degree. Well you could have knocked me over with a feather because it was getting all the grease off the inside of the screen really well, and used on the outside & inside of the side glass, it looked cleaner than the day I picked up the car! It also very kindly lifted all the bits of excess sticker adhesive that had remained from my "honest" sticker removal. All that's left to do now is give the outside of the front & rear screens the same treatment at the last minute before this weekend, and I'll have the cleanest glass ever! So, the question remains, are there any other old wives tales that helps when it comes to cleaning / maintaining Skodas?

| Since vinegar is a mild acid, it's not surprising really that it removes grease. Ammonia works too. |

| Ammonia? :o - Well I'm not doing THAT on my screens. I think I may get complaints from the neighbours. ![]()

| According to the Wax Wizard (Mark Underwood), you should use newspaper to polish glass as it contains chemicals ideal for the task. I tend to mist a bit of Mr Muscle glass cleaner on the glass and then polish with either newspaper or kitchen roll. But don't put too much on! I remember my mum used to use vinegar water and newspaper or, failing that, brown paper on her windows many years ago. Some neighbours used to use some pink gunge called IIRC 'Windowlene' and used to spend hours trying to get the horrible swirls of gunk off their windows. Never could understand it. Also, most alcohols will clean glass nicely. Meths, Surgical spirit, Gin etc. ![]()

| Gin? What a waste of good alcohol? ![]() Tonight's my last night at home before the National, so I'm spending a couple of hours valeting the car tonight - outside of both screens, plus alloys & cow5hit off the paintwork. flies too. No doubt the car will get caked up again on the drive to meet Matt at ****, Fabia at ****** ****, and the drive to *****. ![]() I could "do a Des" and carry some cloths & a duster. ![]()

| I use a spray window cleaner and newspaper, and have for a long time. The problem is tho that you tend to get black marks on the light trim, and also you must use a national paper, and prefereably a broadsheet as they use better inks and paper. (The inks use to have meths in so worked better than they do now) Andy
