Question Lack of oomph from Vrs

I have a standard 53 reg Octy Vrs. When I put my foot hard down in 2nd and 3rd, I hear the turbo hissing and then it seems to get quieter as the revs build past 3000-3500rpm. Then the car seems to lack a bit of power, however if I lift the gas off and then pur my foot down again, the power seems to come back! Is this anything to worry about? The loss of power is not massive, but noticeable. Have I got a pressure leakage somewhere?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance. SC

not that I know of!

Would it help to change the dump valve or anything like that?

Or is there anything that I should be checking out at all? Air filter etc...?

Any suggestions on which one and how much it will cost?? I would prefer a noisier one!!

I have just phoned Skoda to see if they sell official dump valves and they said that they have never heard it called that before!! They have solonoid change over valves! Is this the same thing?? They said that there were 2 on the engine one at £44 and the other at £32. He was quite unhelpfull actually! Any suggestions?

i think the soleniod changeover valve refers to the naturally aspirated 1.8 20v engine with the variable length intake tract....

the dump valve can have a whole host of names like BOV (blow off valve), recirculate vlave, etc etc

Go for the Bailey's one over the standard one. But, before you do this, are you sure its the valve leaking?

well, it depends on what sort of sound you are after really, you need to have a dump valve, but you can either get recirculating one like the oe factory one or you can go for a atmospheric one that gives you the "psssssst" sound, personally i would stick with the original one, but it's a matter od personal choice

Atmospheric ones will cause a fault code and limp home mode. The ECU expects the air thats being dumped to be fed back into the intake, if its not then overfuelling occurs and generates a fault code.

The OEM valve is only a few quid and quiet easy to change, try that before spending around £100 on a good aftermarket one.

If you want the Psssshhht sound then either replace the standard airbox with a CAI, or fit a green airfilter.
