Thumbs up Light Pics

Well, I said I would, so I nipped out with the camera, drove to a deserted lane just down the road out the village, stopped, and took a couple of piccies of the beam/s.

First, this is the dipped beam.

Second, this is the main beam spread with the Rallye bulbs (PS: I own this stretch of road. )

And lastly this is the view, closer to the limit signs, from inside the car. (Yes, I own the signs as well... They were a pig to put up, I can say!)

I hope this gives a true idea of just HOW good these bulbs are.

Umm They are very very bright Jason! Just don't use them too often, else they will melt your lenses! :p

Well - They're not illegal being in the car - but are as soon as I turn them on.

I know this accept it, and will take the risk like other people that run non-standard bulbs. I don't mind criticism - I kind of expected it - but the benefits of these lights for travelling along narrow lanes vastly outweigh the problems they cause on busy roads, when they should be off anyway - IMO.

(and a lot of my night journeys are on narrow, off the beaten track, lanes)

Jason , I wasn't criticising you .............far be it from me ! , just merely pointing out to other people who may be impressed with the lights and were thinking of getting some

I actually quite like the safety aspect of brighter lights from a personal view, but think with the xenons too, people wouldn't like me much!

Then again, thats no different to now then really!

Far canal, they are quite bright

Its amazing how much light those main beams are actually putting out, when you compare them to the dipped. OK, they are not as white, but they give a very good spread and a veeerrrrrry long range. As has been said, they are not legal for road use in Europe, however it would have to be proved that you intended to use them on the road. Also, having lived down in Zumerzet, I know exactly what you mean about the country lanes. Glad you like them.

What you need now are some fog lights. I have some spare 150w bulbs

Be safe, Be seen!

After the trouble someone from the South Wales area had with fog light covers, and with my history, I think I'd better leave the fogs alone. I hardly use them anyway really.

Remind me of the wattage please, Jason. And do you think there is some risk of melting the tarmac ahead of the car when stationary?

Forgive my ignorance here.......:confused :Can someone spell this in the finite detail that I obviously require!!!!

What bulbs are installed where??? I thought the H4 bulb was both dipped and main, there was a fog bulb and one sidelight bulb?!?!??

IIRC the Fabia and Octy have 3 seperate bulbs... the sidelight bulbs (W5W), the Dipped bulb (H7) and the main beam (i *think* its H1)

TBC - if anyone wants to correct me?

Okay - I can see some confusion is apparent, and I'm not surprised given all the brand name and bulb sizes being thrown about so....

I have a pair of Philips Vision Plus 55W bulbs as my dipped beam bulbs, legal and clearer because of "whiter light" I'm sure they're H7 size

With this order came a free pair of blue sidelight bulbs, which are also legal because they shine white as normal - they just look good when off. Dunno the size to be honest - standard sidelight bulb size I should think.

Now.... the main beam bulbs I have now are illegal - Philips Rallye 100W. They produce an excellent amount of light for travelling along narrow lanes and "deserted" carriageways. They sit on their own to the side of the sidelight/dipped beam arrangement. There seemed to be enough space around the bulb, inside the fitting, to dissipate any heat. Tarmac melting (or plaggy lense covers) should not be an issue unless I leave them on for ages and ages... The size? I thought they were H4 - but I could be wrong. TBH I don't remember.

Octavia (without Xenons)
H4 for the dipped and main beam (single bulb)
H3 for the foglights

Octavia (with Xenons)
H3 fog
H3 mainbeam (IIRC)

Fabia (without Xenons)
H7 dipped
H3 main

Fabia (with Xenons)
H7 main

Not sure about foglight bulbs for the Fabia, sorry, but I would imagine H3.

IIRC all models have the W5W sidelights
