MAF Problems again??

Hi I am still having problems with what might be the MAF.
My symptoms are progressively getting worse.
Could someone enlighten me as to whether these could be MAF related.

Last night it was feeling very sluggish even on full jabba boost but it was very wet?? Clutching at straws now.

Symptoms are

1. Loss of power under load, even when on jabba full boost hard to quantify but it feels slower. (intermitant)
2. SLightly Lumpy idle when warm
3. upon cold start, the car is virtually undrivable it is VERY VERY hesitant to the point of stalling in second gear, and kangaroo's like i am a learner (sits back and awates jokes!!)
Skoda tech finds no fault codes but i think they are getting fed up of me keep asking for it to be checked out, the only thing else i can think of is the MAF but at 250 odd notes i would prefer to know for sure.
I have also tried injector cleaner to no avail.

Any tech peeps help me out?

Mike

I have syptoms very similer to you gibbo, and was advised it could be MAF problems because it was intermitant in nature.Although i haven`t experianced the mad kangaroo effect the other 2 problems seem very much like mine.Although the performance drop is not drastic,it feels like your only running at 90% at times and the car can feel a little lazy in pick up after changing gear. This last point made me think DUMP VALVE because the lag between gear chages seemed pretty bad sometimes, although i was informed that DV`s tend to go completely and not just intermitantly.Dispite this i decided to get a new aftermarket DV (hyperboost) and while its early doors yet i can honestly say that the 40 mile drive i gave it yesterday where some of the best ive had in it .The pick up from first to second gear now seems almost instantanious! .The OEM dv that was taken off didnt appear to have any obvious problems so before commiting to a new DV id wait for a bit until i can get back to you on how mine contniues to perform.

Yesterday may have been a fluke cos like i said even with the stock DV sometimes it ran as if there was no problem and i may have got the new DV on a god day yesterday. So its possibly might be an Intermitant MAF problem and/DV combo ,you never know .Im doin 500 miles all next week, remind me next friday and ill post if it seems to be still behaving itself .

P.s The hyperboost makes a SLIGHTLY louder PSSSSSSTTT noise aswell..........BONUS!!!

Yours

Dash

Cheers,
I have changed the DV and it did seem better for a while, i would appreciate your findings after next week.

Tim
Hopefully if it is a maf problem it "should" be covered under warrenty but it might cost me initially, as they wont swap it unless it fails!!

Try cleaning the MAF.

You will need: Some Isopropynol alcohol spray or fluid (used for cleaning circuit boards) and some of the flat cotton buds from Boots.

Firstly, unplug the MAF. Its a snap connector on top of the MAF. You then need to undo 2 star bolts. They are of the security type with the raised centre (to stop you doing it!), you can probably do it if you are careful/lucky or get yourself to a DIY store / Maplins (get some spray whilst there) and get some of the right tools.

Pull out the MAF sensor. Spray with the IPA spray then VERY CAREFULLY use the flat cotton buds to clean the carp off it. Spray again, wipe and allow to dry. If you have fluid rather than spray, put some in a zip lock freezer bag, insert MAF sensor and swoosh it around. Remove and wipe VERY CAREFULLY withe the flat cotton bods. Repeat. Allow it to fully dry (you can put it in the airing cupboard.

Put the sensor back in the MAF housing once dry and give it a spin.

Hope that helps, it worked on mine.

******PLEASE NOTE, I accept NO RESPONSIBILITY if it all goes horribly, horribly wrong and you damage the sensor!******

They are types of carp. Didn't think the swear filter would let me type crap, but evidently it does

Look in the stickies at the start of my Maintenance. Cheap isn't a word which comes to mind in this context.

No John
Not initially,
Gave it a good soaking in contact solution first, then VERY carefully wipped it with a flat cotton bud, dried it out properly and then re installed.

Took it for a spin and my intermitent loss of power wasnt intermitent anymore.
it drove like S**t and even on full bost it didnt make any difference.

So disconnected battery (if all else fails disconnect battery!)

This didnt work either,
so it looked like i might need a new one.
Until this morning when it drove fine again

I might leave it for a couple of days and see how it goes.

Someone off another forum has had similar problems and said it "might" be the N75 Valve so £30 for the "J" version might be worth it insted of £278 for the MAF first.

Thanks for the help i will keep u posted
Mike
