Thumbs up MOT? No problem...

... the car has just breezed through it
Not that I seriously expected it to fail, but there's always that little bit of doubt nagging away at the back of the mind

Mine's recently passed it's second MOT. The guy was impressed how clean the car was and that a Skoda had traction control - said that it gave him a bit of a shock when it was on the rollers.

Mines just passed its third MOT, no problem. I'm not sure how through the garage was, it only took 20 minutes.

My first choice was the dealer, but..
  1. They are on an industrial estate in the back of beyond (poor bus service)
  2. They wanted the car all day, because they don't do the MOT on-site
  3. They sub-contract MOTs to a totally different company
So in the end I took it to... er, the local bus company! They service, repair, and MOT private vehicles (and a lot of the local taxis, by the look of it) as a sideline. I must say that I was impressed by the whole setup - I stayed to watch the test being carried out; quick efficient, and as far as I could see it was "by the book".

IMO, it's better to take your car to MOT at a non-dealer... First of all it's cheaper (mine was £30 for cash ) and what do you get at the end of it? A bit of paper - any competent mechanic can check over your car, and any "MOT" test station will be staffed by people as well trained in MOTing as any dealer... IMO...

( mine flew through as well BTW - sorted for 12 months! )

Though some dealers offer "free MOTs for the life of the vehicle (while the purchaser owns the vehicle)"...whether they subsidise it by sticking a screwdriver through your exhaust while they're doing it is something I have yet to discover...
