New remap for my Stage 2 Turbo Dynamics TDI 150 - Now with Video Clip

I have been running a Stage 2 turbo for a quiet a while now and Chipped Ireland and RS Tuning (Leeds) had asked me to spend the day at Paul's (RS Tuning) workshop as they wanted to try some new tuning techniques to get more power out of a Stage 2 Turbo dynamics setup.

I was already running 217 BHP and 340 Lbft, but Paul and Joe wanted to try something new, so who was I to argue.

The aim was to try and approach 230-240 BHP but retain a very smooth map with equal power across the rev range, holding peak power for as long as possible and finally and most importantly keeping the smoke map as low as possible.

They spent hours with the car on the Dyno, trying various bits and bobs which are far to technical for me to understand, so I sat back and watched TV and surfed the net.

The Result on the dyno print out speak for themselves, I was speechless when I first saw the figures, I was more impressed then I ever thought I would be. Performance on the road was awesome for a TDI before hand, now it is just Special. Power is held as requested to 4500 + RPM to suit my driving style and the map is smoother then it was when it was a standard TDI 150. It is effortless accessible performance at any RPM. As for Smoke, again I was more then suprised, I thought that It would be a bit smokey for my liking but no, very little if any on Spool up, nothing on ordinary keeping up with traffic driving, the only smoke appears on full throttle at 4000 RPM + but nothing out of the ordinary for an old generation remapped PD lump. "read more then a standard PD 150, but acceptable for the levels of performance now on offer :-)"

This is not an advert, but awesome work should be rewarded so a free plug goes a long way, so if you are looking to go Stage 2 on your TDI I would whole heartedly recommend Paul @ RS Tuning :: RS Tuning Ltd, The Performance Tuning Centre :: if you are in the UK or if in Ireland give Joe @ Chipped Ireland Chipped Ireland - Homepage

Re: New remap for my Stage 2 Turbo Dynamics TDI 150

It pulls like a train, it is relentless power all the way to the Redline. I have Very good Goodyear Eagle F1's tyres so it helps when putting the power down. In the dry in 2nd the tyres will slip a little at the upper rev range, there is no slip in 3rd in the dry. In the wet, 2nd spins the majority of the time on full throttle and 3rd will occasionaly spin on bad / really wet surfaces, but as the map and throttle request are so smooth it is so easy to regulate throttle inputs making it easier to regulate all that torque !

Re: New remap for my Stage 2 Turbo Dynamics TDI 150

Hi John,

I am running a Sachs Organic clutch system, I think it was around £550 in a group buy, I got a new dual mass flywheel fitted and new Release bearing when I had the clutch fitted a few months ago.

I did try a Helix plate from Allards in my old Re-mapped Ibiza TDI 130 but that was brutal, it was shockingly bad in traffic. The Sachs feels like an OEM clutch but can handle the power and torque.

You wanna try my spec stage 3+ Thats a brutal clutch, but it makes for excellent shifting speeds and is super strong. I can cope with the slight discomfort in traffic for the superb action it gives on normal driving. Oh, and the flywheel shakes a bit at 1500rpm when trying to make progress, but thats the car's way of telling me to shift down a cog.

I am running standard injectors. It is running a standard TDI 150 Intercooler, Allard EGR blanking, Re-inforced IC pipes, TD Stage 2 Turbo and Milltek Turbo back non resonated exhaust system. I have only ever run it on BP Ultimate Diesel "£120 a litre at the moment - that hurts" and it gets the odd dose of Forte Diesel treatment.

I may well have gone down the route of Injectors after following your thread and a cam was an option, but a few have run cams on uk-mkivs with very little success, only the €700 cams seem to be not have been made out of chocolate (although I gather devonutopia is running the problematic dbilas cam with no reported problems ) I have decided to call it a day with anymore modifications, the car runs perfectly and performs faultlessly and for what it is - is powerful enough. I will just start saving for the next car.

A replacement Sintered one...I can only assume it was a one off, as the splines fell out the middle of it.

Thats impressive for those mods

With the cam, we have found we can get the power in nice and early, then hold good power right to the end, with plenty of fuel from the injectors too. Done more for safety than sheer ooomph, although with my new bigger FMIC, I could be seeing 250+ bhp, and 400 ft lbs from a fresh map now.

Anyway, main thing is its reliable - yours...and you are happy with it. Nice work

Must have been a week one, has it damaged the splines on the gearbox input shaft also?

Fingers crossed with it mate That was my plan if the organic one started to slip, get the sintered one and try that before going into the realms of helix and spec.
