Default Octy Cruise

Finally got cruise control fitted by my dealer last week -

Parts £48.35
Labour £110.50
(excl VAT)

Same stalk as the factory fit, must say I'm impressed. My previous experience with cruise was in a Volvo S40, even though the vRS is much more powerful it's a lot smoother than the Volvo system.

One question though - should I have a warning light on the dash when cruise is engaged ?

Certainly was mate, it was in from Mon pm to Thurs pm. A delay getting replacement brake discs. Didn't see yours but I guess you were in and out before I got there.

Great tool isn't it the cruise control, but I feel you need to pop back and see him...the light (could be any) but I'm guessing it's a warning light relating to the airbag.

K and others know the exact, but your dealer should take a few seconds to reset your ecu/airbag switch.

I suspect he forgot, unless it's another issue that has arisen since.

/Edit, reread to note only when cruise is engaged, no idea then sorry, but suspect not.

Thanks Col, didn't explain that one properly. I don't have any warning lights on, what I meant should I have a warning light to tell me the cruise is engaged ?

Mine was in Thurs am and I picked it up Fri pm. I think mine was taken down to the 'bodyshop' somewhere in the town on Thurs afternoon to have the rear hatch adjusted. So just missed you then...

May I be bold enough to suggest our very own Briskoda Cruise Control package?

Using genuine VAG parts and fitted by our own K.

Costs £150 all in.

Also a £15 donation goes to the Briskoda coffers to help maintain the site etc.

For more details PM me.

Cheers.
Adrian.

I would have gone for the Briskoda package except for the fact that I live bloody miles away ! As for my dealer labour rate TBH I haven't much of a clue, think it's around £40/hr.

Apparently the retrofit should take about 2 hours but cos my dealer hadn't done one before they agreed to cap the price at £180 rather than how long it actually took them.

Hi Greg 2302,
As nobody seems to have answered your question yet!

There is not a warning light to show cruise control ON - however if you touch the footbrake or dip the clutch it does of course disengage.
I find the one of the great uses for cruise is keeping to the limit or thereabouts in roadworks! Also, once you start using it on Motorways, you realise just how bad other motorists are in maintaining a constant speed!

John.

Greg,

Arh ha, *caution falling pennies*, No light, just the odd oh **** when you remember it's on and you have only lifted your right foot.

No worries on missing the cruise deal as savings v distance etc...

Although I would of thought it to be possible to modify somthing so that a light does appear when on cruise...SWMBO will not use it for this anda few other reasons.

bigK any thoughts on that?

I was told quite catagorically by my two local Skoda dealers that retro fitting cruise was not an option as Skoda don't do a kit. Obviously your dealer is a little more open minded.

Just been quoted £140 all in by my dealer!!!! Was well shocked. I am assuming it'll be a similar, if not the same, process and parts as K offers.

Goes to show how labour costs differ between dealers, as I assume the parts are from the same bin and hence the same price!!!

/G

Tell them how easy it is and how they can offer an improved service to there customers, including parking retro...then tell them of a really neat website where they can donate profits made on there new ventures

I've met views from impossible, to I've heard it could be done...certianly for the it's impossible view points it's darn handy having helped do one, to know and explain how it's done, kind of cuts a few layers away

But this raises an issue of, is it approved if a dealer does it?
If so, is this a case of Skoda needing to know that it's dealers, or some at least, do not know? I would like to think it was, since it's not that intrusive to the OEM spec.

ummmmmm

I know it can be done, I've met K. (Is it the law that we have to do that?)

I was just doing a bit of background, my 'dealer' (not Skoda) is sorting it as we speak/text/type/whatever. He's just getting over the wiring adaptation but I have mentioned that I know a guy who does it for 150 notes

With regard to the pushing of the Briskoda brand. Don't worry about it Colin, I mention it at every opportunity.

I gave my dealer a copy of the notes posted here a few months ago for the VW TDI engines which he modified following advice from Skoda UK and a friendly dealer down South who had done a few. They weren't sure if I'd still have full warranty cover officially but said they'd cover it themselves if necessary.

I'm not bothered about the lack of a warning light but wanted to make sure I had one if I was supposed to !

I don't think there should be a warning light while it's on, my dad has had 2 cars with cruise control (including the one he drives now) and it never has a warning light.
The only warning light I ever saw was the ESP triangle (whenever I disable the ESP to try a bit of rallystyle driving, ofcourse only on wet/snowed parkings :p).
When I enable the CC I take my feet off the gas pedal (there's this switch at the steer to make CC go faster/slower) so I really know that I'm not using the pedal.
Otherwise you could indeed try to slow down by removing your foot from the pedal and then realise that CC is still on (especially if you engaged it, then went faster and then slower and you're trying to go slower than the speed you set in CC).
I hope you understand a bit of my strange explaining

Don't get me wrong guys I'm totally comfortable with cruise control, with or without a warning light. My old Volvo S40 had cruise, when cruise was engaged a dashboard light came on - I was just checking in case the Octy should have one too. Ta for the responses tho !
