| Briskodian | Hey Dudes and Ettes, I am coming up to my 20,000 Service and I went back to my dealer to get a price for servicing.... He quoted me 295 quid ( I was expecting around maybe 120) Then I rang another dealer and he said 195 for the exact same service. Am I brain dead or all the dealers trying to rip us off and think we are stupid!! I then contacted a VW dealer and he quoted 200 and can reset the "insp" indicator.... So now I have resorted to my Girlfriends brother a honest mechanic and he offered to do it for 100 and has vag-com software and will reset the ecu. I have a 1.2 Furby, what exactly needs to be replaced on 20k service and are these figures daylight robbery or is there no price control. Anyone have this happen to them. Thanks Robbie :new_evil:

| This mirrors my thread of yesterday (thanks for responses BTW) and matches my figure for 20K 36month 1.4 8v .Obviously there is a fair amount of yer pays yer money yer takes yer choice or some latin phrase " Cavy at M-Power" although quite why BMW should have Guinea Pigs is beyond me! I have 79/100 going in on Tues for a 10k ( The chief mechanic is an afficeinado with his own Vrs modified if you get my drift) and will feed back on cost and to link to another thread the Fabia Vrs demo should be mine for the day as some compensation so I will be able to give MHO to that thread Tony |

| Just booked my 'proper' vRS in for the 20k mile service (car only on 17k) and told it will be £150 max and that includes changing brake fluid. Sounds very expensive to me for a vehicle with a relatively straightforward engine. |

| Briskodian | So basically the issue is that there is no price control out there... i dunno it's getting worse! ![]()

| Briskodian | My VRS has just been serviced. A variable service with the dash indicator showing at 16,000 miles. The service cost, with full oil change and Langzeit filter and longlife oil, was £225.00. The brake fluid wasn't changed, even though the car was just two years old. They also sold me a ltr. of Castrol SLXII to top up for £11.40. Got my coil packs changed to L models without even a blink of the service receptionists eyes, let alone a sharp intake of breath !!! This service lark is (and always will be) a minefield, as far as I am concerned. Have they seen my coming????? Stefan |

| Ok Guys I have had 3 services now prices listed below: 10,000 miles - £54.88p 20,000 miles - £162.96p 30,000 miles - £84.67p Apparently the even mileage ones are the expensive ones, so roll on 40k

| Briskodian | Right Lads these Muppets are seriously getting on my Bobbies (I am male) mmmmm It seems that dealers can charge what they like and put in the cheapest parts ie. spark plugs, oil etc etc... I just had my car serviced now at 20,000 for exactly 125 quid. Now all parts oil brake fluid filters and even windscreen wipers were replaced with quaility products and the ecu insp indicator reset.... This guy is a small time mechanic with the necessary vag-com software and an honest head on his shoulders.... The car is running as per usual at 100% and everything has been checked out as per his schedule and even the car had a mini-valet. parts totalled 62 quid and labour was 63 quid.... He is an ex-vag mechanic and through his honesty is getting a full book of services every week and is not getting greedy but rather building a steady book of clients who will come back and back as they know they can trust him... Why can't dealers be like that, yes that guy wants to make a profit but he will be around a hell of a lot longer than most of these dealers.!!! I rest my case..... He is also going to be branching into the Re-mapping of ECU's and performance items... ![]()

| Briskodian | Yes he is insured, pays VAT and is an Ex-REME mechanic of 12 years and has dealt with every thing from a Challenger down to a Quad... I know they have high overheads but to be honest they have no justification for there exorbarant prices and the great variations.

| Briskodian | I assume you are a dealer and dont care about the average punter who has a budget and needs value for money

It's easy enough to find out how much a service will cost you at the dealer when you buy the car, it's not like it's a hidden surprise you can't budget for. Value for money is a subjective thing - I've always been pleased with the work done on my car by the dealer, and I'd struggle without a courtesy car to use. And you have the choice - if you can't afford to pay a dealer, then you can do the work yourself or pay an independent. Just because one is more expensive than the other doesn't mean there isn't a good a reason for it! And considering you're complaining about the cost of routine servicing, I'm surprised you spent as much as you did on replacing your rear light clusters! Rob.

| Briskodian | Yes you have good points and they are good points but value for money and good workmanship go a long way.. The point that I am trying to make is that the variations are so big from one dealer to another and in some cases a dealer that has several branches but charge differently.... And re the clusters yes they were a few quid but was a present but i see your point.... better to have a good reliable car than an unreliable good looking car... ado

I'd imagine most of these costs are different from dealer to dealer... Rob.

| Briskodian | I see your point and the facts are there, one thing that skoda should do is introduce a standardised service "service" for the dealers and hence there would be a realtive degree of continuity and slight variations for different areas within say 5 to 7 % ie..london more expensive than say taunton becuase of rent etc... anyhow no matter the service costs i will stay with skoda as to be honest it is hard to beat them for both reliabliity and a good user community that use them like here on briskoda ![]()
