Servicing

My octi Vrs will soon need its second service and was wondering if I should send it in to the garage or do the service myself. If I do it myself how do I reset the service light. The reason I ask is that at least I now that the correct longlife oil has been put in the car and that the gararge has not thrashed my car round the block (whitch they did last time )

P.S Is it hard to change the oil and filter, also what about the brake pads??

Cheers guys, thanks for the input

Is your car still under warranty?

Oil and filter same as any other car - drain, remove filter, fit new one and refill. Pads - simple enough, but watch for self-adjustment mechanism on rears which means pistons have to be rotated as they are retracted into the calipers. Resetting the service indicator is covered in the handbook somewhere - someone posted the page quite recently and Denis probably knows it off the top of his head.

Stuff that you won't be able to do that dealer would includes using VAGCOM to check for any faults and clear them unless you have a software version of VAGCOM and a cable. The checklist for each service is in the service book.

Only other potential negative is the slight loss of trade-in value due to not having dealer service history evidenced by stamps in the service book. Your call.

The procedure for resetting the service interval display is on page 64 of the Octavia Owner's Manual. It is worth reading the Notes which follow that so that you know the implications, particularly if on variable servicing intervals.
