Question Should I be worried????

Today driving back a BMW 330d gave me a right good shooing I am in standard form and have a bloody big coffin sub box in the boot along with all my kit for the weekend (washing and clothes) Now does a standard ovty vRs stand a chance with a 330d?? or isthere a chance he was chipped??? or is my octy being gay????

std Octy stands no real chance against a 330.

<quickly checks to make sure he has a vRS> and no your Octy is not gay

Once on the move, the 330d is a very fast car, it's the torque (410 Nm!!!), don't you know

Hmm, whats this. An Octy RS getting slayed by a car the Fabia RS beats from 30-70 by 0.3 seconds (Autocar). Hang your heads in shame

The BM does 0-60 in 7.2 seconds as standard so will beat an Octy quite easily.
I've been in my boss's 530d , and its a bloody fast car (even if the interior is cheap and plastic)

Same output, assuming its a 530D

5 = 5 Series

30D = 3.0 Diesel.

Think it depends if it's in the SE or Sport trim. More info found at www.bmw.co.uk - I can't bring myself to look at the site twice in one day

The 5 has a slightly higher output. I think its 220 instead of 205 bhp but it is a bigger car. The only difference between the 330 SE and Sport models are the styling and equipment. The engines are the same.

330d's................

hmm, mixed feelings about these, speaking as a previous owner (in between my two Octy RS's).

the old 184bhp ones are good but the manual is definitely faster than the auto. i think a standard RS will keep up with these. the newer 204bhp ones are great and truly rapid and it would be tougher.

i was well and truly scalped in my 330d by colin and ian in their remapped octys but at that point i wasn't remapped myself. i had a really ****ty superchips remap later but it would have been closer. even remapped it used to run out of puff over 100 and get beaten quite easily eg. saab 9-3 turbo - i honestly think it was a combination of a tight engine, torque sapping autobox and a really crap remap.

i totally demoralised a 330d on the m74 last week which was quite good fun!

remember though, a lot of the 330d's out there are remapped/boxed too some can be pretty rapid!

i think the 530d output is something like 218bhp. it isn't the same as the 330.

I had a a new 530d in 2002.
It did 45mpg, 0-60 in 7 secs and a top speed of 152mph (where mpg lowered to 30 !!)
Also there are some mods for the 330d/530d that make it faster than a petrol 330/530 in every range and give it an even more impressive top end.

If the Supra went and I was forced to have a sensible car I would get the 330d coupe and chip it.

Yep, I like the 530 and 330 ds, also like the Merc diesels. Shame Merc UK don't bring over the AMG c-class coupe, now that would be fun. Can't ever see me having an auto though. Yes I would chip it and probably rebadge as a 320d (i'm sad like that).

Most people in the business rate the 330D as one of the best/fastest point to point cars of the moment. Quite easily slay a porche 911t over distance (more due to the fact the porche has to stop for fuel every 10 mins). But they are very impresive cars. The last one I drove (Nov last year), was definatly quick, sat at just off it's limiter quite happily with the cruise on, wasnt even very load in the cabin!

BMW make very impresive chassis and engines (for the most part) just a shame it's a 'bimmer'

.... Just my 2p

Try keeping up with anything in a 68bhp Fabia estate! Especially in Cheshire where everbody drives Mercedes SLKs at the very least...

Actually - I'm really enjoying it - the car handles extremely well so I've just stopped braking for roundabouts... Think I've re-discovered the pleasure of ragging a slow car...almost as much fun as my Puma - and it keeps my licence nice and safe...

Funny isn't it? We're all saying, "like the BMW engineering, couldn't live with the badge."
And that's exactly what BMW drivers would say about Skoda's!
