Talking Stage 1 Complete - Wheels & Exhaust.

Well what a day...decided to fit my Milltek system & cat. I am lucky enough to have a good set of tools and access to a ramp.
Fitting the Milltek system and front pipe was a peice of cake, after a small panic session when it looked like the cat was wrong!.

However aligning the back box and getting it secured was another matter, Milltek deserve praise for the quality of the exhaust and Cat - BUT and it's a big but - someone at Milltek deserve a good hiding when they spoil the system with the totally crap and inadequate clamps -- I stripped the threads before they even started to hold - and I wasnt using airtools.

Once I got hold of some good qualty U-Clamps the job was complete, does it make a difference ? - YES not loud, in fact not much difference in volume but nice sound, and on the road it definately picks up & revs clearer - fantastic.

The wheels were a piece of cake, and look great - well I think so anyway, however I think I may need to lower it to get best effect.

The attached image shows the milltek & standard d/pipe -- see the difference in bore, also the tailpipes. It also shows the new wheels - hope you like.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Denis , very nice wheels Dave !

Are we going to see your 17" wheels and tyres in the for sale and wanted section now ?

Is this a heads up for Des, who has missed more bargains recently than the rest of us put together?

Why thank you! praise indeed, whilst I like to modify my car's I do like to make sure they improve things rather than mess up a la nova/maxpower/fastcar etc.

The only other mod(apart from remap) I'm considering is a slight window tint, although not decided on this.

May consider lowering at a later date, not too worried about this at the moment.

As for the old(!) wheels -- that's a very definate - maybe

Exclamation Re-Torque wheels after 50 Miles.

I dunno, 16 year's in the trade and I nearly come a croper....

I fitted the new wheel's yesterday - did it properly, bolts hand tight on the ramp, down to ground and then tighten to correct torque, however I nearly forgot to re-torque -- something you should do anytime wheels are removed and refitted -- only I got a little reminder from the car.....60mph slight bend --- BIG KNOCK,pull over to find N/S/F wheel nuts falling out!!!!

Don't forget to torque wheels correctly!

dread to thing what could happen if I had been on motorway!

Well I spose on the bright side(!) had I not been able to stop or the wheel fell off -- at least there would have been an earlier Jabba spot for someone.........

I have commented on the clamps issue before. Milltek sent me some better ones. Also for-aft alignment is important otherwise it willl hit the rear axle beam when carrying a load or over bumps.
Once you have the remap the real improvement will take place. Mine (with Superchips) is much improved, revs out much cleaner across the rev range.

Dave,

Nice job, Pics nice also (18 wheels I think is too much..but that's for me).

The Miltek DP is 63mm? (2,5inch) inner diameter?
The cat back system is 63mm too? or less?

( in earlier post Manny (if i remember well) replied that it was 57mm inner diameter?

I 'm a little confused

The sports cat system is fixed on the DP or it is separete piece?

Last in the pic showing the end part of Miltek, seams that is too long (out of Bumper)?

Not sure what inner diameter is - outer is 67mm,I only know this as I had to get hold of some better clamps.
The downpipe / cat is a 1 peice unit,
System is same diameter all the way
Tailpipe only sticks out about 4" -- which is more than stock, but not too much.

18's are about as big as you can go for every day usage.

Just to clarify :

The Milltek Sports cat is also the downpipe *** - large bore, more gentle curve to aid flow.Lambda probe locations altered slightly to enable fit - no modification required.
The rest of the system goes on a dream, apart from the fact you have to been the supplied clips, and use some decent u-bolt clamps.

General noise level unchanged - deeper note when accelerating, vehicle picks up a lot cleaner and revs more eagerly - only to get better when chipped.

Would definately recommend the Milltek system, apart from items mentioned already.

Thanks Dave,

I'm thinking to order it from AmD (September time).

The total price (shipping included) is comparable to custom build system here...

(it seams that everybody here offer you ...super technology...the b@st@rds).

Looks nice
Bet those wheels are easier to clean than the standard ones .

If your selling your standard wheels please pm me as I would be very interested in them, as I only have the 16" ones on mine.

Cheers
