Smile Tip: amazing cheap brake dust remover

Been struggling to clean off baked-on brake dust from the alloys.
After trying several cleaners, I decided to try spraying WD-40 on a rag.
result: baked-on brake dust wipes off as easy as pie!
Stuff that resisted Meguir's wheel cleaner, hand cleaner, hard rubbing.
followed by a washing and some wax to prevent another build-up.

Re: Tip: amazing cheap brake dust remover

Remember not to spray it directly onto the brake disc/pads... otherwise you might have a shock the first time you need to stop!

Re: Tip: amazing cheap brake dust remover

I did my wheels yesterday with the following:

1. shampoo and rinse
2. brake dust removal with a toothbrush and WD40
3. shampoo and rinse
4. treatment with Turtlewax brakedust barrier

I'm going to see how I get on with the brakedust barrier, apparently next time I clean the wheels the brakedust should just rinse off

Re: Tip: amazing cheap brake dust remover

Mixed with Pernod it makes a refreshing summer drink - though GT85 has more of a kick.

Re: Tip: amazing cheap brake dust remover

The guy fitting new tyres rubs most of my brake dust off with his hands. I wash my car twice a year, if it needs it or not.
