Toyo R888, anyone any experience

Im looking at putting a set of R888's on for my next European drive but wondered if anyone has any experience of how many miles you can get out of them.

I normally change the Toyo T1R's at between 8-10000 & this is always because the edges are scrubbed off, I need to get 3.5-4000 out of these, there will be no track driving but some fairly enthusiastic runs through the mountain roads

Ive spoken to a few who run them & they say they are OK in the wet apart from standing water. You also need to treat them with respect until they are warm but Im hoping this wont be a problem in Southern Europe in July. I followed a radical lasy year in a Thunderstorm in Switzerland & it all looked very controllable & that was very very wet. Radicals not having a roof was the biggest problem

Re: Toyo R888, anyone any experience

My mate Steve uses them on his Corsa as traction is an issue, but his car is mainly used on the 1/4 mile.

Rates them highly, managed a 12.3sec 1/4 not that long ago and he is running a std diff.

Re: Toyo R888, anyone any experience

Just contacted someone who did 450 miles round Spa on a Porsche, Ok it was wet, then about 1400 road miles & they are still only 1/2 worn, this is starting to sound like the answers I wanted

PM Shifty, I'm pretty sure he ran a set on a jaunt to the Nurburgring last year. From what I recall front tyres were like 'slicks' on his return to the UK

Stuart,

Call southshore tyres (blackpool), ask for Tony...he used to be a F1 tyre man, he knows his stuff....seriously knows it!

He also does brilliant prices!

He also knows Dave, aka bloke with skoda's who has more wheels than sense...

We've had a e sets of him now, we describe what we want to achieve and we pretty much get it.

Re: Toyo R888, anyone any experience

Hi Stuart.....

Toyo 888's. x 1000. Having used several of the semi slick tyres, these are in my opinion the best money can buy. You are right when you say they must be respected until warm, also they are good in the wet/damp, but they do not like standing water - as you have already heard.

I did a ring trip, tyres fitted week before I left, tyres taken off on my return. The car did 40 laps, and the journey there and back. You should easily attain 4k on a set of 4, but i'd swap them around after 2k.

As Colin has said, but a bit far away for you, Tony tyres is the man . He supplies many wealthy trackday enthusiasts with 888's, and steered me toward them after I found the Dunlops went off after a bit of punishment. Can't really rave about them enough. They even seem a little progressive when on the limit, although I don't know what happens if you exceed it, as you have to be travelling very fast indeed to do that

Price is on a par with Kumho's, so very reasonable I'd say.

Get them - enjoy them.

Dave
