I lightly scuffed a wheel rim (17"rs silver)yesterday,does anyone have any experience with a cosmetic repair job?

Other people on here can mention alloy wheel refurbishers (wonderwheels?)

But for a DIY protective method, when I lightly scuffed the edge of my l/h front alloy, I lightly rubbed the "wound" with the finest grade of wet&dry, followed by a coating of clear lacquer. It doesn't get it perfect, not much will, but it at least gets rid of some of the roughness, and stops any ingress of water into the alloy, underneath the surface.

PS: You're nick says TDI but you mention 17" rims, have you done my little trick of putting 17s on a Fabia TDI, or an octy TDI of course.

I'm with Jason

But instead of just using clear lacquer I used silver spraypaint - Halford's do one specially for alloy wheels, then lacquered over it.

It's not a perfect colour match but is pretty close, particularly if you're good with spray paint and can feather the edge in (I can't !)
