Question Aero Wipers

dont know if this should be in my performance or maintenance as i'm not wanting to change them for a mod for mod's sake more that they need changing and i wanted to upgrade/change the wipers for something different/better.

So.

Where do i get them from, how much and whats the car they are made for or whats the p/n ??

Thanks in advance and mods feel free to move accordingly.

Probably been better in the Octavia section, personally, but here you go.

To get them, either brand new from a VW dealer as they were not fitted to the MK1 Octavia, or to a VW breakers yard.

The car you need would probably be the Mk4 Golf, although the Passat wipers might fit and even the current Polo. SKoda wise check out the Superb ones or even the Octavia Mk2 as they might.

Before you do anything though, measure the lengths of your wipers with the blades on from the spindle end of the wiper arm to the far end of the wiper to see how long you need.

The Octavia should manage a straight swap for it, unlike the Fabia, which needs to have the arms butchered.

Areo wiper blades are a complete part (blade end..not including arm), which just pivot on a pin, and just slide on or off depending on how the blade is in relation to the arm...you would therefore need new arms as well.

2 new blades cost me £23 at my dealer a very short while ago.

They have a lower profile, but because they also have a rubber fin the whole length of the blade and no metal assembly they give a much better and complete sweep without any pressure lines as well as pressing better against the glass when at speed.

Further to the PM

To uprade to Aero's you will need to change the whole arm, blade and cap.

* Just the Aero WIPERS are not compatible with our existing wiper ARMS *

I got mine from

http://www.vagparts.com/

look under

Online Shop - Product Overview - VW - Gold mk IV - Exterior - Aero Wipers - Golf mk IV front Aero Wipers

Cost is about £62

They used to also list them for the Leon but had to take them off due to the peeps on SeatCupra.net having fitment problems.

There may be another way which is to order the parts seperately....(part numbers blatantly nicked from Cupra Net)

Pop into VW and get

Drivers Arm - 1J2955409D
Passenger Arm - 1J2955410D
End caps - 1J0955205A 01C

Then go to happy Halfrauds and buy a 19 inch and 21 inch Bosch Aero pack (£18.49 ish)

part no Bosch 928s *

* I haven't tried buying them this way and accept no responsibility for giving out potentially duff information.

Here's a fitting write up also nicked of cupranet

1. Undo nuts
2. Skoosh WD-40 down onto splines.
3. From inside car, flick the wipers and stop them when the tips are pointing towards the roof by switching off the ignition. This is ESSENTIAL as it provides the room you need to shoogle them off....
4. Pull wipers off the screen to the "washing the car" position.
5. rock them on the splines (see below). Come off EASY this way

Prior to refitting / fitting new ones..... switch on the ignition for a few seconds to allow the motor to park again. This makes setting the "rest position" of the wipers a smidge easier

Bosch sells a set since a month or two for the octavia. Which fits directly on our standard arms.

I got the Bosch Aero's from germany. They are a straight swap. Don't need to change the arms or anything!

It's not the same!
There is an optical difference between the original aerotwins and the aero wipers you can use with the original arms.

Bought second hand on ebay Germany for 50 EUR.
You also can buy the lifters on Bonrath or Milotec. They are the same.

Re: Aero Wipers

Have just acquired some aero wiper blades and arms for my '05 Superb. But can I get the old ones off??? No I can't!

Have followed the above instructions as well as I can but they won't budge and I don't want to damage anything by using too much brute force.

Any more tips would be appreciated. Might I need some sort of puller?

Cheers,

Rob

I think they do, actually, see WIPERBLADES.CO.UK : The UK's Premier Online Store

£ 22.95 the pair for Octy Mk1

Got them for SWMBO's car last winter. Lovely not having to peel off frozen sleet in the morning any more. Plus they are silent, work well and look good.
