Blue flame mpg

hi all
fitted a blue flame cat back system last week and it seems to have improved the fuel consumption, before it was fitted i could only do about 220 miles on a full tank of petrol but on my first full tank with it fitted i did 290 miles without changing my driving style, just wondered if this is normal as i thought it would lower mpg slightly. cheers

Re: Blue flame mpg

Regulary get mid to high 30's mpg from mine and can get 40mpg + on a cross country national speed limit road when traffic doesn't allow progress

Re: Blue flame mpg

Add another 100 to that at least!!
Usually get 340-360 from a tank.
Though will vary with how you drive the car

Re: Blue flame mpg

Yes I must admit that with a full tank. £48 at current prices I will get somewhere between 400-420 miles. But this is driving like an angel and resisting all temptation to dust the little pr!ck in the XR2i on the local bypass. And when I say angel 70mph on motorways & free wheeling down steep hills at normal speeds.
The reason why you are getting better MPG is that the engine is running more efficiently the motor doesn't have to expend power by having to push the exhaust fumes down the pipe as it is flowing more freely.

Re: Blue flame mpg

Just topped up this morning, and my odometer was at 397 miles, and according to the daft computer, i had 10 miles remaining lol.

Thats on an Octy vRS with Jabba stage 2, fairly sensible driving with the odd spurt !

I'm presuming you dont feel that there's anything wrong ?

What type of driving are you doing ?
Town, Motorway, bit of both ?

Re: Blue flame mpg

Mostly town driving, only a 14 mile round trip to work each day. The car has a rough idle and sometimes i lose the boost when driving and have to switch the engine off and on again to get it back.

Re: Blue flame mpg

Have you had VAG-COM or similar onto it so see if there are any faults ?

May be worth a quick check.

Re: Blue flame mpg

240 is about what I get normally, 70% must be trips of less than 5 miles though. That was the same even before it was tweaked. Full service history and nothing coming up there. Get just short of 400 if take it steady on a motorway trip. Is there anything that I can do to improve the mpg other than drive like ned flanders?

Re: Blue flame mpg

Have to say my commute to work is only 3 miles and i'm jucky to see above 20mpg as the car doesn't even have time to warm up.
But my girlfriend lives 65 miles away so it gets a long run twice a week and the tank averages mid 30's mpg upto 40mpg if the 65 mile trip is stuck behind an HGV.

My workplace is just over 2 miles away

I was tempted to start biking in and stop coming home for lunch but unfortunately that would require far too much effort
