Bonnet Bolts

On the way to work this morning I met a pheasant at high speed. It came of worse, but not before smashing the grille (including chrome and bodymatched surround).

I've spent the day trying to source the grille second hand, without much luck. The best I've managed is a bonnet and grille of the right color from a breakers for £100 (they won't sell the grille seperately). My bonnet has dented very slightly on top, and quite a bit behind the grille (would require a mild bit of bashing before fitting a new grille). Unless I can source a secondhand grille soon, I'm almost tempted to crack a nut with a sledge hammer by getting the whole thing (still cheaper than a grille from Skoda that I guess would still require spraying for the surround). Also, as the car is diamond silver I'm not too worried about differences in colour fade between the bodywork and new bonnet.

The bonnet appears to be attached by four large Torx bolts. What size would I need to unscrew them? (looked bigger than any Torx stuff in Halfords).

Also I assume the bonnet can be easily changed with two helpers holding either side while I simply screw the bolts into pre made holes?

Niall

P.S. Any market for a slightly dented Octavia bonnet, apart from a five person sledge?

Bonnet Bolts

Cheers Stu, I know you can get the grille seperately, but it would appear cheaper to buy the grille and bonnet combined 2nd hand.

What I'm really looking for is info on what size Torx tool I need to take the bonnet off the hinges, and, whether this is as straightforward as I think it is.

Thanks,

Niall

I am not completely familier with the Octy bonnet but I wouldn't imagine it to be too much different to what you say. You'll maybe need to spend a bit of time lining up properly. As for the tool, I have a Draper set which covers most of the large Torx style bolts it wasn't expensive so maybe have a look on their website.
