Question Bouncy car!

Since I've owned my Octavia, there has been something bothering me..

The previous owner put it on some rather cheap lowering springs, which bounce like crazy whenever you go over anything, and cause the car to ground out.

I have seen something on Ebay designed to stabilise your suspension when towing, I am wondering if anyone can recommend them or not ??

Here is the link:
Spring Assistors SKODA OCTAVIA & ESTATE 96 ON Towing on eBay, also Tow Bars, Touring Travel, Car Accessories, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 25-Jul-08 23:24:46 BST)

Thanks!

Re: Bouncy car!

Surely they are meant for the standard springs rather than the non-standard lowering ones fitted to your car? I would recommend refitting OEM springs to sort out your problem but at circa £60 each front and £55 each rear this isn't going to be cheap.

Re: Bouncy car!

You would be far better to replace the crud suspension with OEM or at least a higher quality after market kit IMHO.

Most lowering springs have a stiffer coil so the standard dampers cant control the rebound effectively. Its not recomended to change springs without uprating the dampers. Either you get standard springs or replace the dampers.

Cutting the standard springs would not cause bouncing as the poundage is still the same.

Re: Bouncy car!

I'd get the shocks checked out first, and then replace the poor suspension. Its quiet possible that the wrong suspension is on the car, eg. golf mk4. The golf is lighter at the rear than the octy.

Re: Bouncy car!

No they are definately not the original springs 'cut down' I have a receipt for them and can see they are aftermarket ones from lookin at them.

As for the dampers being nackered, would it be adviseable to buy new OEM skoda ones, or a better uprated set up??

I dont want to spend ££££ fixing it, as I dont have that kind of money, and it doesn't bother me that much to warrant spending loads, but any advice is much appreciated..

Thanks guys

Re: Bouncy car!

does the guy you bought it off not have the original springs? and don't bother with spring assister's as afaik there aimed more for people who carry heavy weights in there cars i.e larger stereos or lots of tools.

Re: Bouncy car!

Well firstly, I dont want to put original springs back on it, as it would raise the height and lose the look.... And secondly, I've owned the car for a few months now and I dont have the guy's contact details to hand..

I was looking into some 'bumpstops' to mount into the shocks, im thinking that maybe this might restrict the 'bounciness' of the car...

Any ideas on that anyone ??

Re: Bouncy car!

Stop farting about and fit new shocks. Something like Koni FSD or Bilstein. Both will improve handling and safety.

I've used these guys a number of times and are excellent for all things suspension:
Performance Car Parts / EBC Brakes / Eibach Lowering Springs / Koni Suspension Kits / Magnex Exhausts / Powertec Induction Kits - Euro Performance

Personally I'd go for:
Bilstein / Shock Absorbers 'Sports' (Front) / Octavia - All / Euro Performance Car Parts

and

Bilstein / Shock Absorbers 'Sports' (Rear) / Skoda Octavia Saloon* / Euro Performance Car Parts

That wont help anything as you will then just be hitting the bumpstops all the time.

By the sound of it the springs he fitted are too soft (are there any markings on the springs saying what lbs they are?) possibly even springs meant for the lighter Golf.
