| Briskodian | Brake calliper question - Rear disc Great set of forums (I'm new to the site). I wonder if anyone can help with a query I have. I am about to change the rear discs and brake pads on my Octavia vRS (2002). I haven't started the job yet (and no workshop manual to date) but I assume the pistions in the callipers have threaded inserts to accomodate for brake pad wear to keep the handbrake automatically adjusted? What type/direction of thread is used? Is it the same thread on the left and right hand sides or does one side use a conventional right hand thread (clockwise to tighten) and one a left handed thread? Any useful tips for making the job as easy/painless as possible? Many Thanks |

| Re: Brake calliper question - Rear disc You will need a suitable brake wind back tool. Sealey do the set below which caters for most if not all European cars, but you can buy a tool for the VAG range of cars for a fraction of the price of that set. Some Halfords may stock the tool you need. The calipers retract by rotating them in a clockwise direction.

| Re: Brake calliper question - Rear disc A tip sometimes usefull, you dont need to unbolt the carriers even if your changing the disc. One the caliper is off the disc will slide out. So you need a 13mm and 15mm spanner and the wind back tool as your base tools. |
