Brakes

I know this has been covered a few times in various places here however I have a few questions regarding the brakes on the Octavia 1.9TDI 110.

I've noticed that the brakes seem to feel a lot less solid than they used to so figuring the fluid hadn't been done I got that changed after a service. This made very little if any difference, but then it was time for a change anyway.

While the car was in for some warrenty work i asked them to let me know how much was left in th brakes and was told 10k all around for disks and pads. I would have thought that the fronts would wear a lot quicker than the rears with all the extra weight over the fronts. Also when they say 10k before the limits are reached I assume that the performance of the brakes drops off rapidly before this.

I'm just wondering how hard a brake change is to DIY and I remember reading that some bleed tools are not suitable, so what is needed for an octy and can anyone recommend a bleed kit.

Also I want to keep the wear indicator if possible, so what is a good way to get something that will last as long as OEM but perform a bit better.

Thinking standard discs all around then the new greenstuff compund as this has apparantly improved, or prehaps groved disks (not too expensive) and some reasonable pads eg ds2500 or similar (again not too expensive).

Any recommendations for parts and also if i have the money and no time as i need my car for work any reasonably priced, good garages in the bournemouth / southampton sort of area.

Re: Brakes

I have EBC grooved discs...these were bought as part of a group buy a couple of years ago...£135 all in from Sejoc.

Apparently Sejoc no longer do these. Black Diamond do grooved discs and you canget these from Demon Tweeks where we get a 10% discount....talk to Dave Poole....contact details are somewhere...do a search.

Ferodo DS2500 pads....again on a group buy....can get again from DT with a discount...as them to get them sent directly from Fereodo...will be quicker. Around £130 delivered.

Fluid....Castrol Response dot4.1...more than up to the job of day to day driving and a couple of track days....£11/bottle from Halfrauds IIRC....you'll need 2 bottles.

Re: Brakes

Just having a quick punt over the EBC site and about to look at demon tweaks, but they list two sizes for the front of a 110TDI, anyone know how to find out which you need without just taking one out?

Re: Brakes

Anybody got any opinion on Mintex.

Been given prices of £58 & £50 for pairs of front and rear discs.

The pads are about £30 & £20 a pair or I can have fast road versions for £80 for the fronts)

Other question , as with the EBC, is the Octy TDI 110 shows two sizes of front brake pads, anybody know how to find out which i need without taking one out, and which way around the wires are.

Thanks
