Since I have had my Octy, there have been times when I have been aware of a slight judder under breaking.

I have always put it down to warped discs, but tonight on the way home from work (about 1/2 hour ago) I was driving 'spiritedly' and when I was braking with either the clutch depressed, or with the car in neutral I would sometimes get a judder that actually felt more like the front end was bouncing slightly!!!

If I had egg shaped wheels you'd get the same effect but waaaayyyy more obvious best way I can explain really.

When the car is cold, I also think there is a slight 'looseness' to the front end which I thought could be down to ARB bushes?

The car sits fine at speed on motorways, and if you brake hard the wobble/judder/bounce is not evident - it's only when braking slightly firm if that makes sense.

I had an engineers inspection done on the car when I found out it had ben in an accident after being stolen but it came back fine - chassis straight as a pin, it appears only cosmetic damage was done.

Any ideas what could be causing these symptoms?

Do you think a full geometry check would show anything up?

Also is it common for vRS to transmit a fair bit of road noise and rumbling when running Conti tyres? I have no point of reference to know whether mine is abnormal or not.

I only want to have 100% confidence in the car and it's handling which at the moment I do not.

Mine does it, feels like a grinding judder to me. I put it down to the ABS, as my MR2 did the same.

I've felt ABS kick in many times before, especially with my old Cavalier 16V and my Prelude 2.2 VTEC (which I had 110% trust in handling-wise) and neither felt like this!

I don't think I was braking hard enough for ABS to kick in, I certainly never felt the front begin to lock up at all.

Get your front wheels fingerplate balanced if you think it it wobbling at the front end.

Mind still does a slight wobble on the brakes, but not all the time. It isn't a VRS however.

Youd' feel ABS through the brake pedal too - and i guess you're not?

i just changed a wishbone which was making the car wobble a bit not noticable at high speed
my trye fitter noticed the whole wheel shifting under slow braking in fact as i was rolling on the tracking ramp
the rearbush on the W.B. was knackered but it needed jacking and a crow bar to really see it move once raised
don't know whether this helps

General consensus is warped discs.

Letting a mechanic mate have a wee looksee tomorrow.

Popped into West End Skoda to price discs and pads - told them i'd probably go to GSF instead

I will be going to West End next Friday tho to get the ARB bushes replaced under warranty.

With those done and the new brakes, all I will need is new tyres and i'll be pretty happy for now!

GSF brembo and pagid works fine and were £100 cheaper than dealer.

Have you tried taking the pads off brushing the discs with some fine wire brush to remove and deposits on it and ditto for the pad surface. Might be worth trying before you replace the disks and pads though.

Had to do this several times when I worked on an airfield and 130+MPH stops were a daily occourance

I had this a few months back on a trackday. Turned out it was the front shocks needed replacing.

Going to get the car on a set of rollers next Sat to test the braking power for both front and rear.

My mate thinks it is the rear discs/pads as you feel it much more thru the pedal rather than the steering wheel.

Quite happy if it's the rear as they will be cheaper - I already need 2 new tyres imminently and the other 2 in the next 4 months or so.

And i'm saving up for a Gilmour and other bits too - damn cars
