Buying L&K TDI - how to tell 130 from 110 version?

A bit of advice needed chaps. I stumbled across very tidy L&K mk1 Octavia and I'm tempted to purchase, but have couple of questions you could help me with:

- seller swears it is TDI PD 130, but it doesn't look like one to me - it's got 5 speed gearbox, badge with single red "I" on the back, plus it's 2002 plate. My understanding is PD 130 L&K's were introduced in 2003 and were only made with 6 speed boxes? Or am I confused?
- If it is the 110 bhp version, would it be PD engine or the older VP37, the Verteriler Pumpe (spelling?) engine?
- Headlamp washers. Does presence of washers always mean Xenons or were there L&K Octys with just.. well... headlamp washers. The headlamps look to me like they have two projectors each and blueish bulb in cluster closest to grille. For the life of me I cannot remember if there was headlamp level adjustment inside...

Thanks for your help guys

L&Ks have xenons, but you can get Octavias with halogens and washers.

All PD130s in the Octavia had 6 speed boxs, so sounds like a 110 to me. What are the 3 letters on the cambelt cover that depict the engine code, something like AWX.

Thanks for prompt reply.
Good question. Will have to check them letters on cambelt cover next viewing. What should they be?
Besides the obvious 0-60 disadvantage, what's the general consensus, do the owners have anything bad to say about 110 TDi's?

Parkers seems to confirm your thoughts - see Skoda Octavia Hatchback (98-04) - Technical Data - Parker's - although it appears both models were available for a time.

The bottom line is the PD version - 130hp and 6 speed box from 12th May 03 to 31st Jan 04

Fourth line up from the bottom is non-PD version - 110hp and 5 speed box from 1st Nov 01 to 31st Jan 04

Edit - If you can get the VIN code off the Seller, bung it into VIN Decoder for VW, Audi, SEAT, Skoda and see what comes up

1 red i 110bhp, 2 red i 130bhp on mk1's, think it's same with passats (next to last model).

Don't go just on badge though, they went a bit random!!!

Its a tough one. Bottom line is, drive it, if you like it then buy it!
