buying an Octavia VRS

Hello to everyone, new to this forum.
I am seriously considering buying a second-hand octavia VRS. I have been offered a good deal (private seller) on a 2002 one-owner with 33,000 miles, with FSH (skoda). I may be able to get it for about 5000 pounds. In very good condition and drives very well. My only concern is that there a a couple of modifications. I am very ignorant of these things, so any advice will be appreciated. The owner has a bailey dump valve and a K&N induction kit fitted. Were professionally fitted (I've seen the invoice). Should i be concerned? Will i later on have difficulty in selling the car? Will it affect insurance premiums? What are the purpose of these mods?

Bailey dump valve
This is a replacement for the standard valve which recirculates the gas from the turbo. The bailey is a very good part and there is no reason to worry about it. Check with the owner that it is the correct type for the 1.8T which is the DV30, available in several colours but it will look like this:

K&N induction kit
These are less popular with owners on here because the cone sits in the engine bay and draws warm air into the engine. Whilst this is nothing to worry about it will do nothing for the performance.

Check the classified ads on here as I believe someone has a standard air box for sale.

The function of this part is to (theoreticaly) increase power/torque by drawing in more air to the turbo/engine. In practice it will produce minimal gains but will increase the engine noise.

Ask if he has the original air box - if he does you could ask him to re-fit it for you (but it will recude th eengine noise)

Neither of these 2 are modifications to worry about but be wary that if the owner has fitted them he wont have driven slowly around the place all the time. Having said that, lots of people have modified their engines to a much greater extent and the cars are still running around with over 100k miles .
