| Bye Bye Skoda Octavia.... ......But hello to new Skoda Octavia!! ![]() Just arranged a trade in on my 02 Elegance 1.9TDi hatch for a 56 2.0TDi hatch in Black Magic. As I will be moving over to the new Octavia board I thought I would post a wee review of my Octavia ownership. This was my second one (previously had a 2.0 petrol elegance) and overall it has been 54000 miles and 3 1/4 good years. I have found the car good to drive, practical and easy to live with. Likes:- Good handling Reasonable performance from the engine Steering nicely weighted Understated looks Reasonable servicing costs Boot space Good driving position Trip computer Cruise control (fitted at purchase) Dislikes Drivers seat is a tad high and a bit uncomfortable on a long drive Internal Trim fit is not great. It is getting its fair share of rattles now Rear seat knocking noise Arm rest is a bit redundant (one in new one looks better) Position of 12v output Other than fuel/oil/wiper blades and servicing the car has had Front tyres at 18000 Tracking at 19000 Rear off side disk replaced at 22000 Front bushes at 30000 All tyres at 36000 Front tyre at 40000 (non repairable puncture) Rear o/s puncture at 46000 (repaired) Front and rear bearings, front discs/pads and coolant sensor at 47000 Turbo sensor at 49000 New Turbo at 54000 Timing belt at 57000 The turbo going was a big annoyance and cost. The turbo sensor had been fitted because the garage (VW not Skoda) wrongly diagnosed the turbo problem. They did refund this money so can't complain about that to much. I have worked out it has cost in total (purchase price and running costs) is about £0.31 per mile. Now looking forward to the new one Regards

| Re: Bye Bye Skoda Octavia.... All bar the Turbo I'd say that was some pretty cheap motoring. As you say that they diagnosed it as a sensor first i'll wager it was a lazy turbo causing the CEL and limp mode that was the fault in which case actually the turbo is quite repairable.

| Re: Bye Bye Skoda Octavia.... Cheap motoring ? Taken in the context of my previous car, a 2000 Golf Estate 1.9 Tdi (90) which clocked up 215k miles (80k in last 2.5 years) with nothing other than routine servicing - no comparison ![]() Only time will tell if my Mk1 Octy fares as well................ ![]() |

| Re: Bye Bye Skoda Octavia.... VRStu, The Turbo fault (going by threads on here) appears to be particularily difficult to pin point. I must admit I was (and still am to a certain extent) sceptical as to wether it needed a new turbo but since it has been replaced I have not had any problems. What is a lazy turbo? Does it hang around the engine bay smoking and avoiding work? Regards

| Re: Bye Bye Skoda Octavia.... The VNT vanes tend to stick, normally wide open, and this causes an overboost and hence the limp mode,
