Re: cambelt and waterpump.?

I think it's fairly well recommended on here to get them done together as it's a known weak point, having plastic blades which are prone to breaking up - can be replaced with an aftermarket metal unit fairly cheaply.
I'll certainly be insisting on a change when my cambelt is due.

Id get it done, but shop around as that price seems quite dear.

Re: cambelt and waterpump.?

Just an FYI chaps, Id pay no more than £250 from an Independant for this work, also mine was done at Alex Lawrie Skoda all in for £280 so it may be best to call around dealers as you could save a good few quid for beer tokens.

When considering price, don't forget that Skoda dealers in Europe offer a 12-month warranty on all genuine parts from the date of installation or sale.

Re: cambelt and waterpump.?

i would recommend not getting a standard water pump as they have a plastic impellor which is a bit pants and can either break or simply come away fromt eh brass shaft. for less than the price of a standard pump i got a first line pump which is all metal

why they don't fit all metla pumps as standard i don't know

Yes I had mine done at a main dealer too Mitchells on the Wirral.
I phoned around both other dealers and independents and Mitchels came out the cheapest at £260 +vat and they are about 5 mins from my house.

Re: cambelt and waterpump.?

Where do you get the metal pumps from, then? They won't have them here in France!

Re: cambelt and waterpump.?

The parts you require can be obtained from any Accessory or parts shops

Waterpump p/no is
fwp1805 for Firstline for about £45-50
qcp3306 q/hazel for about same price

t/belt
5491xs for belt from Gates
k025491xs for belt kit from gates OE to most car manufacturers along with
Dayco and Contitec makes

Again you can buy with confidence cause all these makes will guarantee there product and if they fail they will refund all expences for damage caused

Any parts desk outwith dealers will either stock these or have an equiv to these numbers

Re: cambelt and waterpump.?

I was talking to my local VAG Perfomance Tuning guy and he suggested that it was often the failure of the original plastic waterpump that can cause the failure of the cambelt.
