Data lead for CD changer

Just a quick question. Is the data lead that runs to the CD changer a generic one, or is it specific to our beloved Symphony set up?
I need to attach a Becker CD changer & wondered if the existing lead would do?
Thanks.

Re: Data lead fir CD changer

The plug on the CD Changer end is normally a VAG one.

Re: Data lead fir CD changer

Right, so probably I'd have to route a new one then. Unless anyone knows of an adapter?

Be careful, I had my Symphony head unit replaced a couple of years back with a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB54 head unit (the very same one offered by Skoda as an upgrade) so I thought it would be compatible with the CD Changer in the boot.

The place that fitted the head unit plugged the CD changer in for me but it didn't work, no big deal as I wasn't too worried, then i stared getting problems, the little red light on the drivers door that flashes when the cent locking is activated started to light up while I was driving, the the central locking started to play up, ie not lock or lock but not open.

Took it back to the installers and left it there they found out the problem and had to disconnect the CD Changer lead from the head unit they discovered that it is interconnected with the central locking system and with the standard head unit will put a signal to the head unit and light up a red ring around the volume control the Woodstock was interfering with this signal and causing the problems with the central locking system, the installers found that if it had been left as it was there was a real risk of damaging the central locking system and the wiring system resulting in a major big bucks rewire possibly.

Hopefully connecting a different CD Changer wont be so risky but it may be worth checking before you do anything.

Re: Data lead fir CD changer

I don't want to mess up any electrics at all, so a new cable seems to be needed then. Also, I need to learn how to spell, for not fir as the post title says.

Re: Data lead fir CD changer

I'll sort the title for you.

Have a look on my Fabia site and you'll find the part numbers for a Fabia - Not sure if it's the same.
