I tend to press the 'recirculate' button, just to make sure outside cold air isn't used the warm the inside of the car. Not totally sure this works any better though...

I had the same problem as Star when I first had my 02 Octy 4x4 Turbo as I couldn't get any air on the screen. I went back to the dealer and they replaced the motor that controls the flap and it was fine after that.

I find it helps to keep the windows clear of mist inside if they are cleaned regularly.

I used to have to wait ages for my 05 Octavia screen to demist... until I thoroughly cleaned the insides of all windows with some window wipes from Sainsburys a couple of weeks ago (cheap, but effective).

The usual (interior) morning mist has now disappeared - don't need the air con on in the mornings at the moment for the drive to work - just leave it set to ECON. Bliss....

In my experience (conventional heating/ventilation, don't have a/c) recirculation gives more mist (humid air from your breath, humidity from your wet coat if it's raining and so on). With the Octy Mk1, you cannot even choose recirculation if you've directed the airstream towards the windscreen.

I'm talking about the climatronic with the recirculate button, will do a test sometime and see how effective it is in the mornings. I'm generally more interested in getting the car warm before anything else so don’t like unnecessary cold air getting in...

Just hit that windscreen button and it changes the air flow, fan speed and temperature for optimum demisting. Don't go adjusting anything else, just hit auto when you're done demisting and it will go back to the previous settings.

Combined with the heated washer jets, deicing for me is nothing more than 30 seconds sat in the car Not quite as good as the old Focus heated screen I had in my Ghia, but not far off!

Same here, its the thing I miss most about my Focus. When looking at new cars I was told the quickclear is a Ford patent and only available on Fords, Mazdas and Jags (all Ford group). The patent is due to run out in 2009/2010 ish (can't remember exactly). Reckon all cars will have it after that.

give the inside of your windscreen a good clean with (no lie) oderless white vinegar, this will get all the grease etc of the inside of your windscreen which can cause real bad misting. My old MR2 was an a$$ for the demisting, havent had my vRS long enough for a demist yet!

The vinegar worked for me though on the MR2. :-)

I'm using the wifes TDCI ghia now as the vRS is terrible for de-icing itself in the mornings. The focus takes no more than a minute on the very coldest of days.

Yea, so after 30 minutes of having the blowers on @ 22c the back window is still like this (see attatched).

Think I might polish the windows today and give them a really good clean, then carry a microfibre cloth with me to wipe the windows in the morning.

Christ even my girlfriends 16 year old 205 gti is as bad as this

Ethos - I would be checking your car for water leaks mate.

I had major problems with ice on the INSIDE of my windscreen last winter - but I had 2 leaks - one from behind the rear bumper (washer missing) and one from where the wiper arm goes thru the tailgate glass - perished washer.

Once these were resolved (took 3 visits to dealers) the problem went away.

The car still mists up but clears very quickly now.

I would be checking your spare wheel well, behind the side trim in your boot, lift your interior mats and check the carpet underneath for moisture as well.

Thanks for the advice, I'm worried that I've messed something up installing my new sound system!!!!

I will check everything you've suggested, if I can't find anything I think I'll ask the dealer to take a quick look next time i'm there.

Going to polish the inside of the windows this weekend and see if that makes a small difference.

The only other thing I can think of is I cleaned the eats the other day with a damp / wet cloth and it took the seats like 12 hours to dry ha. Maybe there's just a bit of moisture still in them?!

Who's knows! It's annoying tho. Mainly because I leave it the last possible minute before I leave to work ha!

Did you cut the door seal membranes?

If so this can let water in.

Nope! Although I think there was a small tear near the top, but this was only like 1 inch or so.

I use Rain X anti mist on the interior glass and finds that works a treat. It does need to be reapplied about once a month but its well worth it, simply wipe it on and let it dry then wipe it off it does need a bit of elbow grease when wiping it off though or you leave a visible film but if you do it right there are no streaks and it keeps the interior mist well at bay

I've always assumed it was because the A/C compressor doesn't operate below (I think) 5 degree C. When it's running, it has the side-effect of drying the air, which is why a car with A/C will often "drip" - it's just water condensed out of the air.

Mine will clear very quickly (certainly less than a minute) when the A/C is on but takes several minutes when it refuses to engage on really cold mornings.

I remember reading some arguments against heated screens as some people were saying that the elements can be seen at times, which can be distracting. Never found the elements on the Focus were an issue. They're not anywhere near as noticeable as the back ones; faint and wiggly You could see them, but it was easy to 'focus' past them

I cant see them at all in the focus either. The plod probably thought that by disconecting the screens then there would be no interference to there speeding and monitoring equipment when using a heated screen.
