| Exhaust rattle? My 51 plate Octy Vrs had an advisory at it's MOT for a broken exhaust bracket but wanted about £150 to sort (main Skoda dealer). Since this Mot the rattle when the engine is at low revs like pulling away from junctions and lights has worsened. Can this be sorted at any exhaust/tyre fitting place for a reasonable price and is it doing any damage? |

| Re: Exhaust rattle? It is a reasonably common problem with the VRS exhaust and to be honest, the price the SKoda dealer has quoted you seems fair as I guess they are quoting for a new exhaust mid section including fitting. It wont be doing and damage as such but will obviously be placing more load on the other exhaust mounting points. |

| Re: Exhaust rattle? Is the exhaust of a 2001 TDI similar? As I have the very same situation. My MOT centre, (not main dealer) has used a very large 'jubilee' clip to make a temporary repair. As with most temporary repairs, it has been like this for some time, but the rattling is getting annoying. Is there going to be any difference between an OEM Skoda part and a tyre/exhaust fitter part, other than price?

| Re: Exhaust rattle? Mine does the same. I replaced the centre and rear mounts but no joy. May be I need a new exhaust - seems a bit premature - its only done 135,000 miles ![]()

| Re: Exhaust rattle? I was thinking the same, my TDI is only on 105k, whereas my old Passat had done 160k+ on the original exhaust. (and clutch). Can you get a 'better' exhausts for the Octy TDI, or should I just put a standard one on? Sorry for turning this from a VRS thread into a TDI tread, but I'm sure is all very similar for the two. ![]()

| Re: Exhaust rattle? Cheers Ali C, I live in Livingston and was wondering where you had it done my car has only done 43,500 miles and seems a little early to need to replace any part of the exhaust. The dealer didn't mention replacing any parts and I have heard of the bracket breaking before and just assumed it was that. Thanks for info and advice from all. |

| Re: Exhaust rattle? Skoda sorted mine for free. Car was in for some other work and they pointed the problem out and said they would weld it back on FOC which was nice of them! |

| Re: Exhaust rattle? It goes to show how much difference there is between dealers. One fixes a problem for free, while the other asks for £150. I'm sure the one that does the odd 'good will' gesture has more work from returning 'happy' customers than the other. I know that this was the reason why I stopped going to my dealer. I once told them about a noise from under the car when I booked it in for a service and they replied; "If you want the car road tested, it will have to be specifically booked in for that reason and we will charge you for the time it takes" So for just an investigation, they suggested it would be around the £50 mark. As I have said, that was the last time I went near that well known dealers in Sheffield. I think it went downhill when they moved into their glass n chrome greenhouse.

| Re: Exhaust rattle? At least I can try a local exhaust fitter and if they can manage then the Skoda dealer is a last option. I will being trying a different dealer as the one that quoted £150 for the exhaust repair also quoted £545 for my 40,000 mile service including timing belt and found it close by with another Skoda dealer for £387 so I'm sure they will be more reasonable. |

| Re: Exhaust rattle? Got the service and cam belt done at Newmarket garage in Bannockburn all in for £387 which was also better than the quote from Chathem's in Dunfermline and the service women didn't seem up to speed on the revised cam belt replacement intervals. |
