Exclamation A few questions, im new!

Just bought a 04 Octavia vRS, and its great. But i have two potential problems.

1) The engine management light is on, however i think this is due to the exhaust system fitted. It has a full blue flame system which I dont think has a CAT. So i would presume the light is showing a problem only due to the fact it has no CAT. Is this correct?

2) also the performance has a clear flat spot at around 2400 rpm but is gone by 3000, and then revs and pulls cleanly to the red line. Could this be caused by the open air induction kit sucking in hot air? or is it the MAF sensor?

I want to get the car checked for faults by my local skoda dealer as I have heard stories of faulty coils, and sensors etc, but im afraid they wont cover my car on warrenty due to the exhaust and induction kit. Will this effect warrenty claims on the MAF sensor?

Help would be much appreciated

Dave

Hi Dave,

1) If your Blueflame system has no cat then yes your engine management light (also known as CEL -short for check engine light) will be on. It doesn't affect performance in anyway having the light on - it's just a bit of a nuisance. most blueflame systems have a cat btw.

2) Could be a dodgy map? Is is remapped do you know? it's worth cleaning the MAF it's an easy job to do an will reduce this as a worry first...

...and as the induction kit feeds air directly onto the maf then you will struggle to get the maf looked at under warranty. If you had the standard airbox on you might get a bit further

Ya I have the original air box so might do that. I work for SEAT, so with it being the same engine as the cupra leon, I might try and get the mechanics to look at it first before i take it to skoda.

As far as I am aware it is not remapped, but it feels mighty quick so its a possibility. I was given the original exhaust intermediate pipe with CAT when i bought the car, so I assumed I didnt have a CAT. Will check at work tommorrow when it light.

Cheers mate

a re-mapped car will probably have a fairly audible turbo spooling (and dump valve) noise, will be on-boost at around 2000rpm and spin the wheels a lot in 1st and 2nd!

I wheelspun my mapped Fabby today and sounded and looked very silly! I forgot what I was doing and just tried to pass an idiot, so I toed it and shifted up quickly and then tucked back in BUT I had to correct steering, turn radio 2 on ,look embarrassed, and try not to grin all at the same time, whilst pretending I didn't have a heron in the boot ( herons' are pretty big , and one won't fit )

Ya its re-mapped then. Every time I change gear its sounds like a dump valve like shhhhhhh noise. Sounds ace and turbo comes on very strongly at 2000 rpm

Might take it to awesome GTi in a few weeks and get it checked.
