| gearbox oil gave my 2000 1.6 octavia a minor service, plugs , oil ,couple of filters.attempted to check the gear oil level ,can't find the top up bung. i'd appreciate a point in the right direction. thanks ![]() |

| Re: gearbox oil Assuming it is the same as the 1.6 Golf, the filler/level plug is situated on the left-hand end of the transmission casing. If your car has engine undershileds, it will be necessary to remove these to gain access. The car needs to be raised equally front and rear - ie ideally on a ramp - to get an accurate oil level check. The oil level should reach the lower edge of the filler/level hole. Ps; Have you signed up for the group buy for the imminent Haynes Manual for the Octavia?
