Default getting the "under cover" police car look...

hi guys, bit of a random thread but i have a black octy vrs mk1 and coming home from touring cars at 6pm yesterday afternoon i noticed that 90% of the cars i caught upto moved out of the way before i had to lift off of brake, most indicating moving over too!!! i had my lights on as it was twilight and its just good practice. i thought i should share this technique as it seems to work very well if your in a rush- "lights on in daylight!"

lights on dipped, close at about a 20-30mph defecit to the car infront, any faster and they dont realise your there till you catch them any slower and they cant see you gaining when they see the headlights.

is there anything else you legally can do to assume an undercover car look? hi vis jackets are my first thought, lol. The benefits are you can really cut through traffic legally and without tailgating if you get it right...issue of speed aside.

Have tried the high-vis jacket approach.
Used to car share with a friend to work (transport company) so we thought we'd wear our yellow high-vis jackets to see if we could cut our 40 minute commute down the M4.
Have to say it didn't work...
Though those overtaking us would take a close look.

lol, i bet they did. short of fitting strobe lights...(EXTREMELY ILLEGAL) i cant really think of anything else, shame the hi-vis approach doesnt work.

do you find people tend to give you a wide berth when closing on them?

An extra aerial should help, also the motorway cops never go around by themselves, so get an equally smart passenger too...

Take a pic of a proper one and copy it to a 'T'.

? mount a pair of non-functioning, non-wired Blue lights prominently on the dash and on the rear parcel shelf???

Also have a cheapo CB mike in hand and talk into it while driving...

..... as well as maintaining a fixed distance to other traffic and driving in a very "positive" manner, without being aggressive. Often get people moving out of my way driving like this and if you want a bit of fun, match their lane changes keeping the fixed distance, and see if you can get them down to a dead 70mph

You could spray the inside of some old foglamp shells black and just fix them with velcro - say your kids put them there....Unlit they could be 'mistaken' for blue....

Alternatively you could just do it totally legally and drive an unmarked/marked car for a living and when someone ****es you off do them for real

As for having blue lights, working or not, you are giving the impression of being an emergency vehicle and therefore could be charged with impersonation, if you are taking advantage of that impression

Just love those blues and twos!

Regards,
Steve
