heated wing mirrors

Maybe a silly question, but I have a 2001 Octy Elegance and it has the switch on the drivers door for for heated mirrors, but I am not sure it does anything... should I feel the glass get warm if I turn it on? How can I check it does work?

Re: heated wing mirrors

Well when my L&K heated mirrors have been on recently in the frosty cold morning you can see the ice/ frost melting and giving off steam into the air - i belive that you have to have the rear heated screen on for the wing mirror heaters to function IIRC.

Turn them on and get one of those little gardener's spray bottles and spray a light mist of water on the glass. It should disappear after a little while.

Saying that, the mirrors on my Fabia seemed quite pathetic compared to other cars with heated mirrors I've owned, so maybe this is a Skoda/VW trait - my dealer told me they were working fine....

I'll give that a whirl (and then I might try reading the manual!)

Re: heated wing mirrors

I too have a switch for the heated mirrors, but it's the same one as turns on the rear screen heater - they work as one. IIRC, the door-mounted switch for the electric wing mirrors (I presume that's the one you're referring to) has to be in the central position for the mirror heating elements to work.= (dunno why).

Give it a whirl!

Re: heated wing mirrors

Thy work in the central position as if you dont want them on leave the switch on either left or right.

Re: heated wing mirrors

If they still dont work, carefully prize the glass off, on the back should be 2 small connecters plugged into the glass, it could just be someone has done a repair and not plugged them back in! If they are still on there, check for a live feed when its all turned on, with a test light. Quick and easy when you know how

Re: heated wing mirrors

The description above doesn't match my Octavia...

The mirror switch has three positions:
-bottom: R only (my vehicle is left hand driven)
-middle: L+R
-top: heater on but only if rear window heater is on

Maybe that's why it seems they don't work.

Good luck!

That is similar as my switch layout (apart from I have a righthand drive, and therefore L, L+R, and heated).... However I have to confess I have not checked yet... maybe on the way back from work tonight!
