Angry HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

It all started when my battery died yesterday all was fine until this morning my mrs was left stranded saying it would not start.

When i got to the car when you turn the key the key icon on the dash flashes all the time and the car is just dead.

We called an auto electrician out who said the was "rejecting the key"!!!

So we tried my spare key and the sme thing happend, But when he looked in both keys he found the following...

One key had the little glass tube chip thing (think he said a transponding chip) for the imoblizer but the other never!!! (this other key was never used and only kept for emergancies)

He told me it may be the little glass chip thing in the only working key may have gone corrupt.

How can i get a replacement key with a new glass transponding chip in it and is this expensive as this car is becomming a money pit now and we caant get the car going.

We have even tried bypassing the imoblizer with the emergancey proceedure in the owners manual but the car wont let us start it.

Realy stuck here and now just hoping that it isnt a big repair bill to sort as the nearest dealer is 56 miles away.

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

The problem might not be the key, it could also just be that the transponder pickup has come loose.

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

Sounds to me like the first move would be to try and have the original key recoded to the car and see if that works.

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

Where is the transponder unit if it may have come lose, the car fires up but dies soon after with the key light on the dash flashing.

How do i re-code the key can i do this myself or does it have to go to a skoda dealer.

Why would one key have the glass chip and the other dosent.

I am getting fed up with all these electrical gremlins.

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

Unless you have the 4 digit SKC then it's probably a dealer for the key coding.

If you remove the steering wheel shroud the reciever unit is located around the ignition barrell.

I have looked in the manual and it says there is a 4 didit number on the key but i cant find it on any of the keys we have.

Where can i find this 4 Digit SKDC number if its not on the key as stated in the user manual.

I was told my model (glxi) should have remote central locking but i dont have anything just a key.

I cant even take it to a skoda dealer as it wont run and the nearest dealer is about 55 miles away.

What can i do.

Got to tax it in 2 weeks aswell

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

The SKC is the security key code, normally supplied with a new car on a plastic tag.

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

I dont have the plastic tag, as i bought the car 5th hand all i have is 2 keys that wont work and the key light on the dash is flashing and the car starting for 2 seconds before it cuts out again.

Can i just not bypass the imoblizer/fuel pump as we are talkning a 10 year old car here and i dont really want to spend hundreds of pounds messing about with diagnostics, codes, keys and any other headaches.

If its going to cost a lot then i think i will put it on ebay as a non runner as i dont know what to do now.

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

I've heard some people dont condone using vag-tacho for some reason but at 25 bucks compared to the dealers prices i dont mind ,They shouldn't keep secret from the car owner that info anyway. But search ebay for vag-tacho and also google will help with guides

Also once you have the SKC you can physically start the car and drive overriding immo

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

It is possible that there is a fault with the twisted wires (green and black) that go from the read coil to the dash panel. Skoda sell this loom at around £6 and it is quite straight forward to replace. It would help to know if the dash panel is showing any fault codes.

It is not possible to bypass the imobilzer, the system is contained inside the instrument cluster and you would need complex electrical systems knowledge of both circuits and surfacemount components to do anything. Even then it may not work because the engine ecu and immobilzer are linked together.

Get the car to a dealer, it doesnt sound to expensive to fix, certainly far less than the losses you would have selling a non runner, and the cost of buying another car. For the sake of £100 at most it must be worth sorting.

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

I have spoke to my nearest dealer but i need to get the car to them so will have to find someone to trailer it 55 miles. They said it may need a new transponder in the key but then this comes as a complete key and said it would be £100 for the key and then £25 to re-code it.

They couldnt understand why one key dosent have the transponder in and only one does and said if i needed 2 keys it would be £250 inc vat but then they said it may be something else which is why they need the car.

I mentioned the green and black twisted wire they said its very unlikley.

Also they have to get the re-codes from a database in germany! why is this?

Bloody tax is out at the end of the month aswell. Cant be doing with this in the run up to a bank holiday lol

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

The SKC is generated online automatically now, this means they need to plug the car into the VAS computer which will read the data, transmit it to the server and then request the code.

Had you considered joining a breakdown service with at home recovery?

They now keep this code secret even from there own mechanics, You have no chance of getting the code from them , Only yourself or someone with the right tools can get your code.

Why did they give the codes out when the car was new on the plastic tag thing.

***GOOD NEWS*** The mobile mechanic got it going but said it will go again.

It seems at some point the only key with the transponder in was dropped and cracked the glass so what he managed to do wa tweak a connection and the car now starts but its only a matter of time before it does fail again.

My other key never had a chip in so i will need a new key and reprogram it to the car but the skoda dealer wont order it until they see my log book, utility bill and passport or driving license its a ten year old car!.

He was using a laptop with VAG COM on it where he also said my abs is not communicating with the ecu but i have the abs light coming off and on like it should on start up. He couldnt tell me if my abs was working just that VAG COM told him that the abs modual was not talking to the ecu.

What would cause this (im not bothered as long as i have a car that runs) just wanted to know if i have abs working.

A for this VAG COM thing that he had on the laptop can you buy this software or get a copy off limewire, it looked really easy to use and i was impresed.

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

Ross-Tech: Home

Limeware would be piracy.

The ABS issue might be a duff ABS pump.

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

How about this.... order 2 new transponders and get your mate to reset the keys with the new chips in

http://www.hickleys.com/diagnostics/keys_list.php

transponders you want are AKTP2

10 quid approx to sort your key issue

As above it only costs £50/$99 for the software license

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

Thanks for the help, The car went again last night lucky i was outside the house. Someone local is going to try and clone the key and so will let you know.

They said that they may be able to clone even if the chip is cracked they may be able to retreive the code and be able to clone it.

I will let you know how i get on.

Re: my ABS if it is a faulty pump would this put the abs light on as everything seems to be in order.

Thanks

Re: HELP Major Imoblizer Problem

My ABS is working as the guy tested it and the codes were an old stored code which was a releif.

I now have 2 cloned keys which work and the car starts the only thing is you have to turn the ignition on twice for the imoblizer icon to stop flashing apparently it is because the car is double checking the data and realises that i am using a cloned key.

But least i have my car running again.

All in all the first guy charged £40 to get it going but then it went again because of the dodgy chip.

Then the guy who cloned 2 keys from the one that was playng up was £40 which included the keys and the clone of the dodgy chip and the cutting of the blanks.

All in all it totalled £80 if i counted the first attempt to get it going.

But for the 2 new keys and cloneing it was £40

I think i did very well as i was looking at towing charges to get the car to a dealer then £200 for keys and £50 for the diagnostic /recodes.
