Help Octavia VRS Tyres

Hi

I have a 05 Octavia VRS coming up for its first set of tyres.

Has Continentals on

Does any on have any experience of fitting better tyres on the car?

Re: Help Octavia VRS Tyres

This has been covered many times before so there should be a few threads kicking around on it.

My choice for new tyres would be Toyo Proxes T1-R - I have some of these on mine

There are many other tyre choices out there - a quick search should turn up many more options

Yup,
I've just fitted toyo t1r's to mine - bear in mind that you can change the size from 205/50/17 to 225/45/17 with no problems and they're usually cheaper I believe.

Re: Help Octavia VRS Tyres

The search button is your friend

However, many have changed as general opinion is that the stock Conti's are not up to much on the vRS. As LJ_Matt said quite a few have changed to 225/45/17 as they tend to be cheaper (more cars use them) with no issues. Popular choices are Goodyear GSD3's, Toyo Proxes T1-R's (I am on my second complete set now) and Pirelli's (cant remember exactly which ones).

Re: Help Octavia VRS Tyres

Hello Patrick,

I changed from the standard Continental Conti`s to a set of Kumho KH11, much cheaper.

Kumho ECSTA KH11
205/50 R17 93W XL asymmetric

On heavy driving trough corners the car sticks a little less better to the ground then
the Conti`s, seems like a harder compound. (also when doing 0-60)
My car is a standard vRS btw.
Better though when driving in the rain, water goes smooth aside.
Best tyres for the money, my opinion.

mytyres.co.uk - Tyres for PASSENGER CARs cheap, bargains, look + save

No track expierence, so maybe the KnockHills are laughing about this
Was a chauffeur for tv and politics, so raced on the road now and then to be on time or to get skills
No bragging, but so you know I`m serious about driving and the tyres.
Let us know wich type won please, nice for a poll maybe.

Greetings, Snoetje

Re: Help Octavia VRS Tyres

I have had Toyos on mine for nearly 40,000 (mainly motorway) miles. Excellent grip in all conditions, reasonably quiet, reasonable price and I'm about to order another set! The originals...not sure now if they were Bridgestones or Contis didnt last as well.

Re: Help Octavia VRS Tyres

I have just changed my first set from Factory Fitted Continental to Goodyear Eagle F1's. I changed to 225/45/17 and had no problems so far (less than 500 miles in them!). Grip is great, far less understeer and road noise is as good as the conti's if not better. I paid £85 each fitted and balanced. Very Happy!

Re: Help Octavia VRS Tyres

I paid £122 each for new Continentals as per what supplied with originally. I take it i'm paying too much or is this value for money - i reckon i can get just short of 15k on the front set.

Re: Help Octavia VRS Tyres

I've just put four PZero Rossos on mine. Only done a few miles so can't comment on grip/performance/etc, but they're noticeably quieter than the Contis.

I thought long and hard about getting the T1-Rs as they're so highly regarded, but in the end I decided to stick with asymetrics as from bitter experience, punctures always happen at the worst possible moment and I like to know I can whack on the spare and carry on at full speed. The thought of pootling at 50 with a directional on backwards or an asymetric/directional mix does not appeal to me in the slightest.

Re: Help Octavia VRS Tyres

After reading many threads regarding tyres I decided on a set of Toyo Proxes TR-1's 225/45/17's.

After more googling and reading I ordered from www.elitedirect.com - £77 each delivered.

Ordered them Monday arrived today - Wednesday.

Luckily I know someone that works in a well known tyre place, so she is going to fit them for free ( well a few drinks anyway . And yes I did say she.

So many thanks to all who have posted their advice, I just hope you are all right about the choice.
